Two groups come to mind that do not want Elio or similar to succeed. Gas companies, because it would cause lower sales. Car companies, because they make profit on expensive cars and don't want people to have that choice. I could add motorcycle companies, because they want to be able to do it themselves to satisfy their existing older customers. Insurance companies for same reasons as the car companies. Oops that's more than two. You get the point.
You're right. You can also add the most powerful companies in the world, the oil companies who want to sell us more gasoline.

Interesting the Elio website is working again 1/9/25. Not all links working. Since Paul Elio said it had failed, wonder why they are not informing shareholders or getting it delisted. Some kind of official public announcement. Perhaps Paul is spreading his tax losses or some other legal maneuver?

I can't buy into the conspiracy theory that big oil, the auto industry and insurance companies didn't want Paul to succeed with the Elio.

Wasn't the initial need for 64,000 early adopters to go into production? That's a small number compared to what the auto industry as a whole produces in a year, and with all of the by products that are produced besides gasoline and diesel by the oil industry they wouldn't even notice, besides they have far bigger things to worry about just producing oil than a small niche market of vehicles.

This takes me back to the whole origin of "Vaporware" and the guy who claimed he invented a carburetor that gets 100 MPG in the mid 70's and his "mysterious" death.

Answer me this, why did the Saudis invest so much into Lucid? Maybe they did so they can control the company and make it fail? I'm guessing that they decided to invest into building a plant in Saudi Arabia that will build Lucids. I also guess the master plan it to retrofit them with LS6's and thus sell more gasoline. At this point, that's what they should be doing as opposed to throwing billions at an EV company.

At this point, I ask, why would they do this? There must be a reason and someone here knows what it is.

The Saudis bought out the guy that came up with the 200 mpg carb. For some reason bolting on a carb would somehow make an ICE be way more efficient. So, all of the advanced electronics that can control every aspect of an ICE engine today, seems to never be able to have this bolt on solution using antiquated tech. Let alone having no way to adjust spark or combustion design. Just a simple bolt on goodie.

This is why conspiracy is way easier to believe as opposed to reality. Forget engineering, just believe an article. Too bad Paul never got that carb because the Elio would get like 500 mpg then. As we all know, the claim of half the width is double the mileage is a fact. It is because Paul said so, he knows as he's a Mechanical Engineer. We know they are always right with every claim.

I remember the story of the 100mpg carburetor. Some guy stated he figured out the original designers plans, but was too old to implement it and he was selling the drawings to anyone who wanted to fabricate this thing and take it to market.

My father saw this add in some mechanics magazine and mailed in a check. I was just a child (at the time) but I know it was probably less than $40, as Mom wouldn't have let him spend any more than that. Any who, he received this package and the drawings of this magical carburetor. I remember looking over his shoulder at the drawings and it looked like a child drew it -- complete crap. Dad knew he had been taken, but told me he didn't have the correct machining equipment to build it.

bought every gas saving gadget
Do you remember the "Tornado Gas Saver"?? I think you put it in your intake hose or something like that.

Some guy I worked with purchased that thing -- no difference in mpg. He wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, and was bragging about how much gas he was "going to save". I kept my mouth shut before and after his purchase/installation and failure.

There was that thing you installed in your lighter and it "cleaned the electronics." Here's just one of the teardowns of the product and you'll see what it is. I find that the best comment is, "I have one in my Tesla and I haven't visited a gas station in months! Amazing device."

Here's another teardown of what you can plug into your OBDII port.

If you notice, when the price of gas goes up, so do the ads and variations of these products.

Remember there were magnets that you put on your fuel line too.
