I,m still excited about the Elio coming into production...but, a job opportunity came up for this 63 year old senior citizen that forced me into purchasing a Nissan Versa in order to get into the workforce after 13 years of being disabled and just days from picking out a wheelchair as my main mode of transportation. I elected over a year ago when I invested in Elio that would be my main vehicle of choice. After two total knee replacements and extensive physical therapy I've had excellent results and had to jump at the chance to work again and lose my disability status and great parking spots ! I have never been so excited to be able to earn a paycheck after a long 13 year absence. Here is a great Elio encouraging fact: My Nissan which is rated 31/41 fuel mileage and my monthly expense will cost me approximately $145.00 - $160.00 monthly. I figured even if the Elio would give me 75 miles per gallon for highway mileage ( most of my commute will be 65 m.p.h. highway driving..."THE ELIO" WILL...make ( 4 ) Nissan payments a year on the fuel savings alone...when I start driving the ELIO to work in...??? I'm READY to still buy the ELIO whenever it's produced and save $$$$...leaving the Nissan parked and paying for it with every trip to work ....and if the ELIO gets the expected 82-84 m.p.g....I'll save even more !...I'm just sayin'...you do the math !

congratulations on your recovery and happy to hear you have found something that you want to do .... for you and many others, the Elio will be an "and" car that is fun and makes economic sense

You keep saying that the Elio will be an "and" car. Maybe if you have the nice job with the house and 2.5 kids. For far too many of us the Elio will be our ONLY car. My current auto is a 20-year-old Honda with the front bumper being held on by duct tape. I am making nowhere NEAR what I was making a year ago when I was "RA'd" by IBM (RA = Resource Allocation, since people are our greatest resource). The Elio is my best hope of starting to get myself out of this life where I don't want to drive to job interviews because I don't want them to see my car.

If Elio focuses its marketing solely on making the Elio the "and" car, then they will be cutting themselves off of a HUGE market. College students, esp. grad students (since many colleges limit the ability of undergrads to have personal cars on campus) are a HUGE potential market. With two seats, you can still drive your date to wherever you're going in relative comfort. Nowadays, motorcycles cost as much as a car, scooters can fit two but just barely, and in both cases, they're not that nice to drive when it's raining outside (much less snowing). Plus, both occupants have to be wearing a helmet, so you have to provide a shared helmet for your passenger, which will totally mess up her hair. Not as romantic as you might think.

So stop pushing it as strictly an "and" car, and start pushing it as a "starter car", like the starter homes for families just starting out.

BTW, has anyone tried getting a baby's car seat in and out of the back seat?

I have no clue where the concept of it being only an "and" car comes from .... EM is marketing it as vehicle with Paul's must haves .... how it is used is up to the buyer ... the "and" car is most certainly a strong marketing angle but it is far from being the only one .... the tour has targeted college campuses, in fact will be on display at one later this month .... they also market it as a computer vehicle, as a tow car behind motorhomes, a low cost means of transportation to help increase opportunities, in some jurisdictions a single occupant commuter vehicle which offers access to high occupancy lanes, etc, etc, etc .... we have been told that the Elio will come with provisions to place a child seat in the rear

EM early on promoted the Elio as an "and" vehicle for a wide range of demographics: Commuters, soccer moms, students, retirees, aging bikers, commercial delivery fleets, and ZELIO. Matter of fact EM was considering the official name of the Elio: The "&".

The Elio will be an and commuter (replacing the old beater second car) for the vast majority of owners. It certainly may function as the only car for those that can get by with a 2 seater.

No reason in the world the ELIO can not be an only car for many. If not for extreme cold and snow I would ride my Harley year round many in other parts of the country do. If it can be done on a bike it should not be an issue with an ELIO.
You would own the Elio as your only vehicle if you lived in a warmer climate?
