My point exactly; gears in the timing are fantastic, but they have a very recognizable sound, and they are loud because they are spinning so fast and they'll use straight cut on the gears.

The gear driven camshafts of the late '90s Honda VFR800 weren't noisy. It was music, unique to that model, and many seek them out over their chain driven successor.

I prefer a chain to a belt any day, Belts stretch More than chains and are costly to replace.
