stock = investors= expected profits= higher price and lower quality, and wind up with a camel (designed by committee) -Paul needs the latitude and support of private capital, and us to the extent we each feel financially comfortable. For those who might drop a couple of K, waiting to pick up their car at a casino in town, no problem, but I'm evaluating the costs of pick up or delivery just to save some $$. I've seen some beautiful machines and other toys- drones on the site etc. for me the 1k was a streach, but it was the Tee shirt that sealed the deal (lol)

Few trust a company that has been around for years let alone a start up. We have just seen to many scam in our life time. And this current administration with anything green .
Publicly trade company would have one interest fast return on cash take profit sell and run. If it look like there was money to be had take over would run right over them. Keep it private keep control. Yes I would throw down more to see this make it.
This goes much farther than just a low cost interesting car/bike.

For me it isnt really the refundable vs nonrefundable part. Meaning iI was the car so the only two ways i dont get the worth is if i change my mind or if the company goes defunct. If the company goes defunct, lets face it, no one gets their money back refundable or not.. the bigest enemy elio has in that department is elio. The longer that production is always a year out the more likely they are to fail. At this point i dont care what date they give as long as it is realistic. In the automotive industry a year is not a long time. I hope i am pleasantly suprised but i do not see their current timeline as realistic. Now for the second thing. Price. The reservarion does not lock in a price. It does not even lock in a price scedule that accounts for inflation. Meaning if/when production gets rolling and they find their cost exceedes their expectations they will need to raise the price. While I hope it doesn't, this may make it unrealistic to purchase. Thus the major reason i did not go all in for $1000, but for $100 instead.

Kail, the following is a quote from the Elio Motors web site -Let me take you back to the fundamentals for the Elio.
"Elio is not a fling. It is not a novelty.
It is the product of a mobile society naturally evolving to a more efficient andpractical form of transportation.
Let’s look at the facts and realities of the world we live in:

  • Gas today is at an all-time high
  • Space is becoming a smaller and smaller commodity and we’re being crowded off our roads and bumped and dinged out of our parking lots
  • Cars cost more than the average house did only a few decades ago
  • Traditional personal transportation isn’t working like it used to. We need a new way of getting around.
That’s when a car enthusiast, a visionary, a man with a dream named Paul Elio got an idea. A simple, brilliant idea. To create a vehicle for today’s generation of drivers that addressed their transportation needs and the world’s new realities."
Kali-Elio is being designed to get 84mpg hwy, 49 mpg city, at $6,800.00.
Terrence :)

I'm funding mine by selling off some of the other vehicle projects that I have sitting around. I should be able to pay for it that way without worrying about financing it (other than the fact that the initial payment is via credit card to make it easier to complete the transaction). That will prevent me from being forced to carry more insurance on it and making payments that carry interest forward over a period of time. I just wish it were happening today & not a year or so from now, seeing as how I'm pushing my daily driver to it's limits right now (it REALLY needs a new engine).

Being in product development in the automotive industry for >20 years here in Michigan, I can tell you Mr. Elio has assembled a top notch board of directors from some of the best names in the business. This caliber of people do not join something they don't totally believe in. This goes to say the same for the list of suppliers that have already signed LOI's with Elio Motors. The company I work for, only starts working with customers in advanced product development when we see the possible value in doing so up front. We typically are doing so at our own risk, as no one is getting paid at this point. We do so, because there is a great opportunity of reward once the product goes into production and we would be the only supplier for XX commodity to the program. Look at the website, top notch. Look at the main goals for the product itself, top notch. Look at the backgrounds of the directors he has assembled, top notch. Look at the supply base he has selected, top notch. Look at the way he is getting next to free advertisement, top notch. Look at the way the stores will be outfitted, top notch. Look at the way he is going about providing upgrades to the vehicle, top notch. Look at the warranty he put together ( better then the Can-am Spyder by the way ), top notch.

All that said, I have no doubts this program will get off the ground and we will all be driving our fabled Elio's in the future.
This is being built on a solid foundation and will take time. Be glade that it is, so we can all have confidence that we will be driving a world class piece of transportation with a well grounded company that has our backs.

Music to my ears. Cool. If your company is like mine, you can't talk much about specifics. But what level of systems did you get to work on? Chassis, body, interiors, drive, electrical? If you don't mind me asking. What is your part? I only got to work at pure basic research in automotive. I'm always cuirious about real industry.
