Why does it work in airplanes?
Because it is simple and effective

Which is the same reason they're preferred for motorcycles. The operator can get the present information and trend information with a momentary glance away from the surroundings that are waiting to kill them. There are some pretty atrocious M/C gauge clusters out there, but fortunately not many.

Is that tiny number a 55 or a 65...

BOOM.

Simple and effective: 1994-2006 Kawasaki ZG1000.

Then we are all quite fortunate that the Elio isn't an airplane.

Anyone else care to bring up any more irrelevant and inapplicable standards the Elio doesn't meet? How about the requirement that seat bottom cushions serve as personal flotation device?
You missed the point. And if SAE does have a standard, it would be relevant. And I do take trips to Canada and plan to do so with Elio.

What do you mean the cushion isn't a PFD?, I thought the Stc, Osha, Faa, Twa, required it under the code "saving your wet butt in an autocycle"
