5$+ and you would see a bigger push for the Elio. One reason I am buying an Elio is for that exact reason. Gas will only continue to get more expensive its not going down in price anytime soon. The Elio would give me more bang for my buck.
Gas prices do correlate with peoples cars many people dumped SUV's when gas prices rose. Hell think about it the Elio is going to be made at the former HUMMER plant. If that isn't ironic I don't know what is.
I voted less than $3.75 because I think with current gas prices the economic equation makes sense. Anything above that will of course create more demand, but I think the demand is plenty now, we just need it built by anybody.
The MPG is the least important aspect of an Elio for me. I happen to love the design, its uniqueness, safety design, and its cost. The high MPG is just a bonus. It also is functional and meets my personal transportation requirements.
I do surveys for money and a recurring question I get is "how much would gas prices have to increase to change your driving habits?" Well, gas would have to cost so much that my 700-800 mile weekly commute cost more to drive than I got paid, so I figure about $20/gallon!
