Bring back that old leaded gas; those were the days! In those markets where ethanol blends are the norm, things may have changed since then. The folks selling fuel stabilizers will tell you that the ethanol begins to separate from the gasoline as soon as one week. This, and the added corrosiveness of ethanol is supposed to lead to rusting problems for steel tanks not designed to store it.

I use such a stabilizer in my bike, just to avoid these potential problems from the gas sitting in the tank.
That is the reason they went across the country and dug-up most of the tanks at gas stations, and replaced.

From what I recall, the tank replacements preceded the ethanol craze by a decade or two. Those 10,000 gallon tanks were leaking like crazy, and banks that foreclosed on properties with them were being held liable for the remediation of the site. Many were pulled out of the ground then.

I want my Elio NOW!

· My Annual Commute: 25,000 miles
· Price of gas: 2.99/gal this morning
· Current Honda: 28/mpg
· Average Elio: 67/mpg
· Estimated Annual Fuel Savings: $1554

That’s just looking at fuel savings. When you add in all the other cost savings of driving a $6800 vehicle for commuting then purchasing the Elio is a slam-dunk.

BTW – If I were crazy enough to use my toy hauler (12/mpg) for commuting I’d save over $6200 on fuel!

The current falling gas prices are only a short term thing . They will be going back up after elections. However even if they stayed low for a couple years the ELIO is still a great way to save money. And allow your self the opportunity to spent it on something other than gas.

No, I didn't go to Birmingham. I was in Rome last weekend after waiting a year to sit in an Elio. If I'd seen one earlier then I'd have been "All-In" earlier. When I told a friend I'd put 1,000 non-refundable dollars on a car that probably won't be produced for another year he called me a "pioneer". I think he was being kind. My girlfriend on the other hand called me a “smart man”. She’s a KEEPER! :)

Most amazing is that we now believe that $3.00 gas is cheap!

I could USE my Elio now. I WANT my Elio after they have a functional engine that will be tested to destruction, final specs determined, tolerances and fit confirmed, complete units crash tested, and so on. Oh, and hire and train people to build and QC them. For those reasons, I'm willing to wait.

You could always sell the Honda, pick up a used Prius and sell it after taking delivery of your Elio to better tide you over. You have confirmed the validity of Elio's anticipated marketing of the gas card that pays for your Elio with the gas savings. I wish you the best in the interim. I can tell that Christmas 2015 is going to be a L-O-N-G way off for you!:)

Over the years I've lost track of how many people have asked me if I'm interested in selling my Honda. People approach me at the gas station, grocery parking lot, the park, contractors working at the house, etc. It's in great shape and has been meticulously maintained. For me the value of having reliable 14-year-old car outweighs its cash value. Once I get my Elio the plan is to put a cover on the Honda and park it behind the barn as a backup vehicle if needed.

Speaking of paying for my Elio, yesterday I opened an "Elio Savings Account" at my bank. I'll be making deposits each month so when my Elio is ready I'll pay cash for the car. In addition, I'm sure Elio will be offering many options that I want like cruise, auto, sunroof, power seat and a light package. My plan is to use the Elio Gas Card to pay for those options if the terms are acceptable. I like the innovative concept of the gas card and want to give it a try.

Plus, you will earn all that interest on your money in the mean time! That might pay for a lug nut.
