I'm personally not in the market to buy a new pickup truck, but the Rivian looks like a stellar value proposition if you ask me. Many of the guys I work with have recently purchased new light-duty trucks (Ram 1500, Silverado/Sierra 1500, F150, etc) and the sticker price is comparable with the Rivian.

If the purchase price was in fact inconsequential in the grand scheme, then future cost of ownership totally favors the all-electric option. Charging is more cost-effective than fueling up at a gas station in almost every circumstance, and traditional maintenance hindrances (transmission, alternator, radiator, etc) disappear.

When I go out in the middle of nowheresville Ohio and Indiana, my customers have businesses that have a parking lot 90% full of pickup trucks. They are not buying the super fuel efficient car. I can almost see them looking at an expensive pickup because in this day of age, it's the norm. Ford and GM sell plenty of overpriced pickups that only the rich can afford. So, there must be many more rich people out there than what I think.

I'd suspect that this could tap into a market but not be anywhere on the Elio market of 125K to 250K sales per year. So it makes sense why it's as expensive as it is.

That "market" would be for those that have disposable income who will buy it for "looks" not for "work".;) Not a good market comparison to ELIO demographics who's looking to save money with it's super efficient mpg.....if it ever gets produced. :(

So, there have been questions about potential longevity of EV batteries, and here's a real world example of how (at least Tesla) packs are holding up after several hundred thousand miles:


Only 13% degradation after 350,000 miles. Meaning it still has 87% of its original capacity.

One thing to note is that the 90kWh batteries have seen higher degradation than the original 85kWh...which I believe is being attributed to the use of silicon in the anode. Not sure we have many of the 100kWh packs with enough miles to compare.

Do they have a study of all of the Tesla Taxis they have in Amsterdam? There's a ton of them there and they have to be racking up lots of mileage on them. I rode in one that had 400,000 km on it.

Not that I'm aware of, but I know there is a self-reported data set of Tesla owners globally, and it's possible/probable that some of those vehicles are included.
