Hold on thar one darn second MM...
Every other rendition that I know of including the 1972 King Earl Boogie Band version uses "Riding..."

But...

Check the movie. Paul Newman sings, "Sittin' on the dashboard of my car..."
Both Myself and Craig credited "Cool Hand Luke."
So... If you're going to credit the "Cool Hand Luke" rendition, it's "Sittin'".
Actually, it's...

"I don't care if it rains or freezes, long as I got my plastic Jesus
sittin' on the dashboard of my car.
Comes in colors pink and pleasant, glows in the dark cause it's irredenscent
take it with you when you travel far.

Get yourself a sweet Madonna, dressed in rinestones sittin' on a
pedestal of abalony shell.
Goin' 90, I ain't sacry, 'cause I got the Vigin Mary
assurin' me that I won't go to Hell.

Get yourself a sweet Madonna, dressed in rindstones sittin' on a
pedestal of abalony shell.
Goin' 90, I ain't scary, 'cause I got the Virgin Mary
assurin' me that I won't go to Hell."

Newman slurs "freezes" into "long", hence my quote of "...s'long".
He basically uses the Eddie Marrs version, but switches it around and ad-libs.

Good morning Elio Amazed. I'm Catholic, and live in the very deeeeep south, amongst the die hard Baptist Belt folks, and ALL my life, the only version of that song that I ever knew, (and sang) was the one that Paul Newman sang.

I'm not being disrespectful to our wonderful Lord, I'm just Lovin' my up bringing with all the Baptist kids that lived all around me.

Back to the OP, from Pep Boys, or any auto parts store, you can get a small compass that you can place on your own dash for a buck or two.

If you have a portable GPS then you do not need one as the GPS will do that for you.

I want seaweed to tell me what the weather is like.
Never heard of using seaweed. That must be a UK thing.

We use weather stones. They're far more accurate than a TV forecaster.

Both are nice.
I got four Garmin Nuvi 265Ws w' attachments off of Ebay for an average of $37 each including shipping.
One for each cage, and one for each bike.

Given how much we can do with smartphones, i wonder about the hands-free mounting locations. I do NOT like ANY dash mounted units.

The Bluetooth stereo (factory or aftermarket) is assumed.

I used my phone to navigate our way to a new hospital for some tests on my wife this morning. I'd played around with Drive+ on Nokia, but continued to use the TomTom for my primary navigation tool. This morning TomTom was no help finding the POI I needed, so Drive+ it was. I'm amazed.

Drive+ is outstanding, but requires your data to be turned on for traffic and weather updates. I just us the data during boot-up, then turn it off. Updates aren't really necessary on a short trip, and I don't need to burn data at that rate.

Smartphones are used by notsosmartpeople while driving. The best safety requirement would be that smartphones auto shut off when the Elio is rolling at any speed........the call and texting features.

I agree. I know I'm old school, but I'm also a MC rider.

Using a device with a bluetooth headpiece for directions is not much different from a "talking" gps unit. I don't see much of a problem with it.

However...

Though many will argue this point, I've sat beside a number of drivers who were so noticably distracted while in a call via hands-free bluetooth that they consistantly made mistakes and had numerous near misses that they otherwise would not have made and would not have had.

I don't even care if it's on-star. Your attention is still not as 100% on the road as it would otherwise be.

And those who use hand-held phones for calls while driving? Believe me, you don't even want to know.
We won't even mention the other thing.

WAIT JUST A MINUTE--- Are you telling me that phones can be smart??? How do I send mine off to school to learn all this cool stuff? Mine only rings to let me talk to people trying to call me, then gives another sound once every so often. That is not too smart, if you ask me. Mine needs more education so it can tell me what to do.
