Let's review -stats tell us that about 4 people a week or about 200 folks a year die in car fires
about 610,000 die from heart disease I think the best defense against dying in a car is to keep the drivers as healthy as possible-
go ahead keep swapping those bacon wrapped, cheeze wiz, deep fried, with lard burger recipes and raise the risk of dying in a car fire
For those who "hunger" Ouch- for better gas mileage, -the less you weigh the better the mileage!!
time for my breakfast- tofu scramble w/ nutritional yeast!!

Jim (JEBar) and I are having free-range Black Angus rib-eyes (he may be doing a sirloin...not sure) and eggs for breakfast. He was kind enough to pick myself and some other people up some awesome looking steaks from SD on his way back to NC....there will be leftovers looking at the size of them. Might ever throw in some hash browns fried in bacon grease for good measure. My mouth's watering just thinking about it. If I'm getting yeast in my diet, it's coming from my beer, thank you. ;)

[Note to self: Pick up some Amberbock on the way home.]

I plan on eating real food in MODERATION to include a periodic 2 oz bacon cheeseburger slider. No 1/4 or 1/2 pounders. I think a very high % of the 610,000 had a genetic predisposition to heart disease. My Mother and Grandmother's diets consisted of lard used from bacon they rendered and their arteries remained clean and open for 90 + years. Now if my family was prone to heart disease please pass me the tofu scramble, but hold the nutrional yeast.

while that may be true for some, I suspect that it won't be true for many others .... much the same thinking as with motorcycles .... many we see have only a driver while is sure isn't rare to see one with a driver and passenger .... as can be seen in some of my prior post, I do wish they would include some sort of escape hatch for the rear seat .... that said, a person in the rear seat of an Elio will be much safer than one on the passenger seat of an open bike and from that standpoint I have little doubt an Elio will provide its passenger(s) with more in the way of safety than any other vehicle classified as a motorcycle

You make an excellent point. I'm sure people in the back seat of an Elio are a lot safer than people on the back of a two wheeled motorcycle or motor scooter, not to mention the people in the back seat of some of the mini SUVs (stupid useless vehicles) are not protected by a real crumple zone.

Six counting Sunday School?
Nah. Gonna have to take the minivan for that one! :D
Actually. Now that I think of it. I'm normally serving in the AV department on Sundays, which means that I need to be there an hour before the rest of the family. So I'll be alone (probably in my elio or my truck as it's fun and doesn't get driven during the week) and the fam will meet me there in the minivan...

I see in the last few pages no body mentioned... For the casual reader I'll add, we've been told there will be an optional sunroof and 'likely' an optional back window.

I assume the back window will be glass. I don't know about the sunroof. And a window break tool will work on the back. But I think an inside release is better, and would work on the solid hatch as well. The sunroof may well have a release, we'll see.

I don't think a back hatch egress would be feasible in an Elio (unless your head was on fire and your ass was catchin' - Charlie Daniels). The rear seater would have to somehow fold down the rear seat to get to the opening with no room to move left or right, and by the looks of Paul poking his head out of the rear in one of the famous Elio pics, you'd have to be pretty lean to pull it off. Sunroof, on the other hand, may just work.

There is one thing about a sunroof I mentioned before, but I don't know if anyone remembered; the inside opening for the sunroof is only going to be at most 12" across and maybe the same front to rear. My best guess is that it will only be 10"x 9" that's the same size if not smaller than the side windows. So the sunroof would be the size of a piece of paper.
If you've ever seen the sunroof in a Fiero it looked like a huge piece of glass on the outside, but on the inside it was tiny; it was 28" across and 8" front to rear and that was because of all the internal bracing in the car.

Pretty much the scenario they were discussing. I don't think it's much of a concern myself. But IF my hair was on fire, no back seat would stand in MY way. :-)

ON the sunroof, I only need 12in by 16in (or less) to squeeze out of something in an emergency, and I'm 265lbs. ( Little butter probably would help.)

At 265 I think you might "strain" yourself :peep:
