Gee mister...
That's an awfully big spoon for such an inconsequential pot... :pop2:

I was going to let this lie but I just can't. Perhaps the popcorn munching at the end of your post was an indication that you were just trolling to get things riled up so here I go.

I really like that this thread started as an opportunity for those of us that are less vocal about our support, or at the least are willing to make an effort to accept the elgin dash, can have a place to finally show our support.

Although things have calmed greatly in the last few weeks, this forum, in several different threads, has been peppered with vial comments, damnation, and predictions of doom since the elgin dash was first made public. These comments persist even after EM has said that the elgin will be the dash. Although I appreciate that everyone should feel free to state their feelings, the repetitive and consistent complaining largely comes from a small handful of members.

To me, a small number of people, complaining over and over, knowing we heard them, and knowing it won't change, reminds me of a child throwing a temper tantrum hoping something will change. Big spoon? Given the low level of push back from the less vocal supporters I don't think so. Inconsequential pot? Perhaps, but given some of the less than charming comments about the elgin and how it will cause complete an utter failure of EM some members obviously think this isn't so inconsequential. For me, I'd just like to not have somebody yelling at me constantly telling me that the thing I like is horrible.

...And way to reminiscent of a 5 year old whining continuously when they have been told over and over that they won't get whatever is they want...

...a child throwing a temper tantrum hoping something will change.

It's all just about people expressing...
Their honest likes and dislikes...
And their opinions.

Those should be respected.

Putting this as respectfully and delicately as I can...
My point was...

People showing support? Yep. Admirable.
Antaganistic name calling? Offensive.
And... We've been advised of exactly that many times here.

Respectfully yours.

According to this poll:
http://elioowners.com/threads/vote-for-the-elgin-dash.5959/
(55% hate it)

and THIS poll:
http://elioowners.com/threads/elio-gauge-cluster-lord-elgin-other-options.803/
(74% say no)

The thing you like is horrible.

Let's define what we're talking about. Is it the entire dash, or just the speedo that's the problem? For me, it's the entire dash. I loathe and despise the speedo, and we are probably stuck with it -- but perhaps it can be modified as to the numerical scale, etc. But the dash as a whole is bad, and I don't believe that it is 100% engraved in titanium. In fact ... NOTHING is engraved in titanium until the first production car rolls off the line.

Enough noise gets listened to. Fact of life.

I invited a friend -- who supports Elio and wants it to succeed -- to take a look at the dash, which he hadn't been aware of in its P5 guise. His exact words were "J****! That looks cheesy, and I hope they don't go with it." Amen.

A majority of a very small sampling! Maybe 2 or 3 hundred total responses.
Looks like the real majority didn't care enough to vote.

Here is my independent vote and opinion.
I had to Google the Elgin dash to see what it may look like. After careful research, I can say that I really don't give a rip. But I thought I would stir the pot anyway.

Looking for it on Google was necessary; if you have the pictures of the P5 it's in there.

The main complaint against it is readability and total waste of space.
Having just that little window on the left to read the tachometer is a complete waste if you have an automatic.
In the center of both are idiot lights.
The comparison most people do is to the P4 which had a Geo Metro dash (instrument cluster)

If it has to be based on a Lord Elgin watch, it would have been better with this 1950's style

I also tire of the debates here about this; it will be the dash of the top photo, period.
If you really don't like it, let Elio Motors know, or change it after you own it, or don't buy the Elio.

When they gathered feed back at the shows, it doesn't even register for most people what the dash looked like.
My word of advice is; once it's out in production, EM and PE are going to have to live with their decision; we don't.

If you don't like the Elgin design fine, but when you start using terms like hate it, looks cheesy, not very functional, numbers too small and difficult to read, wastes space, too many confusing idiot lights, and it needs to be changed, but EM doesn't listen to it's customers, it starts to cause some negative reflection on Paul Elio's engineering ability and his overall Elio concept. Most future Elio owners haven't given the dash a second thought until the Elio Elgin Dash Haters call their attention to it.

If you don't like the appearance of the Elgin dash, ASSUME it looks cheesy, and you ASSUME you can't read what you ASSUME is a space wasting, non-functional dash, with confusing idiot lights don't buy it. I won't know for certain until AFTER I actually SEE and EXPERIENCE the Elgin Dash during A TEST DRIVE. I happen to like the clean and simple not off the shelf Elgin Dash design and the brushed metal back plate (not cheesy). The P4 dash photo above looks cheap and dated compared to the P5 Elgin dash below.
