Love your design ideas Ari. How about some classic aero headlights on the fenders like the 1940 Ford? They can be isolated to not vibrate as is the concern and they get the lights out where they do the most good for safety. Wondering how they would look as the 'eyes' on the face of the Elio?

Since the fenders on the Elio turn with the tires they would be illegal.....

Consider them as switchable driving lights or daytime running lights, smaller than the headlights, but consider integrating the turnsignals into them. Leave the main headlights where they are on the chassis.

Always pointing in the direction of travel unlike body/chassis mounted lights, they increase safety, and in the case of the Elio design, very economically. They are called "adaptive headlights". google it.

The lights on that Ford are fitted to the main bodywork shell. They are therefore "sprung" weight (inboard of the suspension) and relatively stable on the road. like the lights on other cars (even motor cycles and bicycle lights are actually "sprung" because they are located on the main frame and don't go up and down with the wheels). If you fitted headlights to the Elio's front fenders they would be "unsprung" weight (outboard of the suspension) and would move rapidly up and down with the front wheels. If you could keep the bulb filaments intact for any length of time, the light pattern would bounce up and down all over the place.

BTW, That's one of my favorite cars. I thought about it, but it would have to be on fenders attached to the body. Two major problems other than what was said, the extra weight ( unsprung weight ) isn't good, and the bouncing would trash trash most any headlight, even LED's. Its marginal for marker lights but those can be hardened.

I think an extreme body mod would be suitable. Which wouldn't be totally hard to do, just more than people would expect from a kit. Yep could be done as a kit.
