This is telling me that the factory will be up and running sometime in the 4th quarter. BIG NEWS!
Enough workers to make 100 finished vehicles - that's probably one complete assembly line.
They should be poised to go pretty soon after that. Yep, BIG NEWS!

Those workers won't be Shreveport's finest. They'll be well-trained Roush employees and well-trained Comau employees until the kinks are ironed out.

Unlikely. They don't need many highly trained engineers... a few to program machines and set things up. The production could simply use 100 or so new hires who each perform a few different operations.

Hmmm.
Let's see...
Let's say it's going to cost just $60,000 per unit to build these.
Let's say they sell for $20,000 each (collectables).

Explain to me how this increases revenue.

Must be the new PE math.

Also...

If I'm reading this right, the e-series is now kaput...
And there's not going to be jack sh*t built or tested until Q4.

Maybe I need to apply the new math to that too.
I don't think you are reading right. The e-series will continue because it is ESSENTIAL to getting the car ready for production and to get the safety testing and durability testing done. The pre-production cars will be separate critters, tune for refinements, not for basics.

Hope you're right, but don't think you are. We'll find out around 12/1

Question: would the flooding damage in Shreveport that I've seen on the news affect Elio's ability to get and retain local workers?

Just casting a thought into the pond to see where the ripples go...

Just read this on the news. My prediction (on another thread) for when the Elio would be built at the factory was December 1st 2016. I feel this 100 counts, so I might be correct. :)

Fact they are being built at the plant, I think is very positive. Should help them get it ready for the production run. Also, I hope some of the 100 make there way to YouTube so we can get a better feel of the actual operation of it and real user reviews.

To be honest, I think most "realist" knew there would be another delay. After all, its Mid-March already. But overall, I feel this is actually pretty positive. :)

In the link you provided it said: "the bulk of the consumer launch will have to be moved into 2017 at a date to be determined", not that they wouldn't start production until 2017.

The fact they didn't say "all" instead of "bulk" gives me hope that some of the early numbered consumer elios will be out yet this year.
If wishes were Elios, we'd all be happily driving them. Don't hold you breath for getting your personal Elio this year -- unless your number is 12 or some such.

500 per shift... my number is 3,898 which means theoretically, I could get mine as fast as 8 days after production kicks off. Yes, I know it is possible that it takes time to ramp up production but the optimist in me has seen very short ramp-up cycles and IF they use the production of the first 100 as a training session for employees, they could be up and running as they finish those.

I wonder how long they'll wait after producing the batch of 100 at Shreveport before they start real production.

Sorry Ty...

I have to agree with Ekh on this.
Those 100 will be used (as EM said ages ago) to set up and fine tune the production lines.
EM also said (again, some time ago) that Comau techs would be the ones doing this.
Those techs would then correctly train the local help with the expertise gained.
