I actually just presented a paper with an old friend on a related topic at the ATIA conference on the 30th, that might help explain why. Though our topic didn't address the specific phenomena I think might be happening, I did address it, that is, one of the effects social media has, is not as much bringing people of different view points together, but in congregating people with similar perspectives. This is one of the reasons in behavioral health social media is often looked at as a mixed bag. We know that people who want to move forward in their recovery can find a lot of support on line, however the opposite is also true, people who are already mistrusting or depressed can easily find others as mistrusting and depressed who can reinforce each others perceptions. More seriously, people who might be suicidal can connect very easily with others who share that interest and find encouragement in actually attempting.

That was my long winded way of saying positive people seek other positive people out, just as negative people seek negative people out, and neither may be any closer to an objective truth than the other. Though personally, I prefer to go to bed with positive thoughts, though my wife and dogs like to jump in too. :)
So if there is an Anti-Elio Owners site and I post positive comments and speculation regarding Elio Motor's progress am I classified a Troll? I think some reservationists that were positive and supportive Elio fans are just plain pissed at all the promises and delays and drifted over to the dark side. That could be me in about 6 months if there is no funding news and we are still having so much off topic discussion, as fun as that may be.

Misery loves company basically?

Trolls love things like Elio its like sharks with blood. Hopefully when all said in done the can eat shit and die. They wont of course because they will just either band wagon on and proclaim they knew all along and Elio is great etc. Or they will complain how the Elio doesn't ride like 400,000$ Rolls Royce. Doesn't have the power of a Ferrari. Or the build quality of a Lexus. etc etc.

I took a look just out of curiosity and amusement. It's basically the creator of the group posting and commenting himself, with a couple other people making a comment or two. I agree with Elio: meh. The problem I see is the verbiage people are using: scam, missed promises, lying, etc. People obviously didn't read the disclosure when they VOLUNTARILY made a deposit. No promises have ever been made. There have been some missed deadlines, but as i see it, the project is still running it's course.

My wife is Hungarian....
Do you know the Himnusz? Their national anthem. "Pity, O Lord, the Hungarians Who are tossed by waves of danger Extend over it your guarding arm On the sea of its misery Long torn by ill fate".

The dogs are fairly positive, albiet a bit disturbed from previous abuse.

OT -- I've had two dogs as an adult, both rescues. One had been abused, the other ignored ... and she turned out, after about 18 months of stabilizing, to be a superb companion, a people-magnet in ways I could never be, even had her certified as a therapy dog. Had to have her put down this summer, and I truly miss her. Ginger was her name.

Beautiful Golden, my favorite breed, but settled on Shetland Sheepdogs based on size. All obedience, agility, and therapy dog trained. Put him down about a year ago. Buddy was his name. Sadly our last dog.

Absolutely. I've been tooling around on the Internet since 1989, when it was barely even called "the Internet". Your observation that "one of the effects social media has, is not as much bringing people of different view points together, but in congregating people with similar perspectives" is right on the money. While we think of social media these days as the Twitter/Facebook/Instagram/Snapchat/etc conglomeration, the Internet in general has been a place to seek out similar interests since day one. Remember Netnews? It's still there, but I remember specialized newsgroups like "alt.sexy.bald.captains" and other similarly specific groups. Pre-Internet, if you had an odd affinity towards something, you were something of an outcast, but if you can find a group of even just a few like-minded folks in the world who share your perversi...er...uhm... affinity, then suddenly you're fine.

The Internet, just like alcohol, fattening foods, and cable news, should be taken in moderation. ;)
It has never been limited to the internet. We ALWAYS surround ourselves with "like minded" individuals-
Politics, teams, religion, nationalism and of course Fox "news" vs MSNBC
