there have been threads re: the pep boys, most unfavorable, but more importantly the lack of availability/nearness, to future owners. EM said they will address this but that's all I've heard. My experiences (3 nearby) they do a good (but pricy) oil change and changing tires, but "mechanics/ technictions" would be a stretch - looked like an entry level low pay job in "the pits", but time will tell

from what we were told when we visited the tour in Charlotte, every Pep Boys will have a "Master Certified Tech" that has been trained and certified by EM .... we weren't told at what point in the development/production that training will take place .... from what I've seen, Pep Boys seems to have a significant turnover of folks working in their shop .... I have no way of knowing if that will continue with the personnel that are trained by EM

i am hoping each elio comes with a link to their service manual and illustrated parts breakdown that we can download into a thumb drive. This way we can find the part required and go to the parts store to get it. I envision this site as the owners forums to ID problems and fixes as well as recommendations and pictures of how we have customized our toys.... I have my motorcycle manuals in electronic format and it is so nice when doing maint.

As we enter 2015, unofficially named the Year of the Elio, we will need to work on our local Elio Owners groups to help each other out. Maybe we can organize it by state so we know who to contact if we have a problem in any area of the country....

CanAm has an annual spyder ride in for spyder owners to congregate and meet other owners as well as the spyder engineers and technicians and vendors. it is great to see how others have modified their bikes and to get the latest scoop on the mew models. CanAm foots the bill for a night banguet and lunch and provides ride in pins and other nic nacs. Hoping Elio does something similar. This summers meet in Durango Colorada had over 650 Spyders, Could you imagine seeing 1000 Elios in one parking lot

GREAT IDEA, BUT I DO NOT THINK THIS VEHICLE WILL GET MUCH USE ON LONG DISTANCE TRIPS. I ONCE DROVE MY SCORPION 280 MILES EACH WAY TO DAYTONA BIKE WEEK. IT WAS MISERABLE !

I don't see why the Elio shouldn't be used on long trips; at least it's a big step up from a m/cycle and some go thousands of miles on those.

Last July we drove 2500 miles in 8 days in my little self built Liege, through Spain and France, including over the Pyrenean mountains. Best fun I've had in years. Having said that, I wouldn't want to do the same in a Grinnall Scorpion, or any other car where I'd be completely exposed to the elements; the best thing I fitted to my car is the "Bimini" top, a simple vinyl roof panel over the occupants' heads. No side screens or rear screens, but it keeps you dry(ish) in the rain and it keeps the sun off your head. It also make the car a little more aerodynamic.

The Elio should be good for any journey, in my book, as long as it has comfortable seats, a heater and a system for keeping the interior cool and ventilated in hot weather. All of those things seem to be in hand
