I don't understand how they can say you need a MC endorsment for the Elio, but can't take the road test with it. Reminds me of "have your cake and eat it too".
I assume its because an MC endorsement allows you to ride a 2 wheel motorcycle, which requires different skills from an Elio. At least they recognize its different.

There in comes the problem.....there are those out here who due to medical problems/injuries can not ride a 2 wheeler at all, so what are they going to do for those people to test?

It's also possible that the course where you take the test can't accommodate the size of a trike.
I know in PA you can take the MC test on a trike, but not at every location.

Here's a sample test course (Australian, but first one I found with measurements):

And with an Elio for scale...

It would not be physically possible to pass the test on this course with an Elio.

Is my Lit Motors C-1 enclosed cab motorcycle an Autocyle........with only two wheels.........AAMVA should have read enclosed cab Two & Three Wheelers.

They would have to say enclosed cab two and three wheelers with automotive type controls. There are enclosed two wheelers out there already however all the ones I have seen are enclosed motorcycles and not automotive controls like the C-! is trying to use

Please work your States to get the law changed and it won't be an issue. I fall into that category which is why I am working with my local Senator to hopefully get it done in a timely manner.

Who is they? It should be we.

I've already contacted my state senator and representative, but our legislature is not in session and won't be until next year. We have an election in November, and then all the committee seats get shuffled by seniority.

Thumbs up on the contacts! I hope you check back after the elections. We have the same scenario in Idaho, but my Senator said that he has made some Transportation Committee contacts and started the process of drafting the legislation so it's ready when they reconvene. He apparently is working overtime. I plan on followup contacts after the November elections to be sure it hasn't stalled along the way. I have hopes for the change but won't know until after the vote sometime next year.

Side bar comment: I'm willing to bet that about half the motorcyclists out there do not have a M/C endorsement on their license and do not have any insurance for a motorcycle either. I see a lot of "scooters" in the 50cc-150cc class running around town here without helmets and negligible riding skills.

I agree that it would be proactive to attain your motorcycle endorsement while promoting the change of the motor vehicle law to accomodate three wheeled autocycles. However, I worry about the "having your cake and eating it too" comment because the Elio is skirting the "crash test" requirements by using the motorcycle classification. Now, as potential owners, we want to declare the Elio is not or motorcycle to avoid the licensing requirements. Seems hinky to me...just my opinion though...

It is not Elio's choice to use the motorcycle classification, that classification comes from the feds.
