I just read this, and I believe it is good news!

I'm guessing ELIO has used this same information while getting the State laws changed to accommodate the autocycle?

http://www.aamva.org/3WheelVehicleBP/

Elio Motors not only uses this information to encourage changes in state laws but they were also actively involved in getting the AAMVA to write these recommendations in the first place. The official AAMVA video on this issue even includes the Elio P3 in it.

The Delaware DMV indicated that, unless the law is changed, the Elio will be classed as a motorcycle and require a MC endorsement. That requires a MC road test on a 2 wheel MC as well as a class and written test. The motor vehicle law will need to be amended to create the "autocycle" class. The DMV is well aware of the recommendations from the national group, but they are stuck with the law as it stands.

True, the AAMVA can only suggest and recommend. Each state still needs to create or ammend current laws to come in line with the recomendations. Hopefully soon.

I don't understand how they can say you need a MC endorsment for the Elio, but can't take the road test with it. Reminds me of "have your cake and eat it too".

I hope our lawmakers here in Wisconsin will read that document. Lately, they (either party) do not seem to be willing to do ANYTHING unless there is a lot of funding for their campaign attached to it. So if their was a check stapled to the inside cover, then maybe!

The only way most lawmakers will read anything nowadays is only if there is a cash contribution enclosed.
After all, we have the best government money can buy.

I recommend you don't sit back and HOPE..........check on-line to see how your State's current code classify's the Elio and if it requires a motorcycle endorsement and a helmet call your local Senator to sponsor a Bill to make the necessary changes..........as simple as Oregon's:
Operator's of motorcycles with an enclosed cab are not required to wear a helmet or have a motorcycle endorsement.

Don't assume someone else is going to do it. Frankly, I believe State politicians will be more receptive if the request comes from interested citizens and future Elio owners than from an outsider Elio VP of Governmental Affairs.
Don't wait because my Senator mentioned that it may take a year to implement the change.

I didn't find that to be the case. My local Senator was actually very interested in the Elio.......and wasn't aware of it until I called him regarding his help in sponsoring a Bill to change the helmet and mc endorsement regs.

Is my Lit Motors C-1 enclosed cab motorcycle an Autocyle........with only two wheels.........AAMVA should have read enclosed cab Two & Three Wheelers.
