BMW Motorcycle dealers encourage it??? Do you own a BMW motorcycle? On a recent BMW motorcycle trip from Chicago to Seattle WA there is a total of (1) BMW motorcycle dealer/repair center. I only HOPE Elio will eventually have a much better service network than BMW. I love my bike (BMW K1600GTL Exclusive) but I did not buy it for the Amazing service center offerings. If I wanted to buy service centers and stores I would have kept my Harley. There is a store/service every 5 miles across the US. Regarding your interest in transporting the Elio, I think this topic has been covered in 50 or so posts with illustrations for your review.
There is a Harley Service Center every 5 miles across the US! Wait a minute...........maybe EM should have partnered with Harley Davidson as their service provider. Harley Dealers may have welcomed Elio Training and have appreciated the added business over the traditional non-biking seasons around the country.

In last weeks' Town Hall Meeting they apparently said there likely wouldn't be 'Marshalling Centers' the first year. Given that the first year's production run is likely to be sold before it even starts, even showrooms might not be needed immediately. While EM is getting good at drumming up excitement, having showrooms for a car that you can't get for a year is a lot of overhead. It will be interesting to see what they do.

I also wondered about shipping them. A typical Auto Transport has two rails - not so good for the third wheel. I suppose you could rig up a dolly for the third wheel that would straddle the rails, or ship them on a flat bed, but as light as they are, and given they're only going to 60 different locations, getting a lot of them on one truck would seem to make sense. You certainly couldn't have any fluids in them if you were going to ship them vertically, but crated, like smaller tractors, might make sense. Or maybe they induce us all to come to Shreveport and pick them up there!
being new need to ask "town Hall meeting"? guessing it's online?
thanks

A Question.

If reserved my Elio is ready for me before my local store (Salt Lake City) opens, will I need to pick it up at the factory? Or will it be delivered?

Order it through Amazon Prime and it will come to your door shipping free! (Sorry, pulling your leg.) There was some discussion somewhere that a delivery to your door (for an extra delivery charge) was a possibility until the Elio retail centers were set up.

Unfortunately we do not yet know the specifics for how exactly delivery will work for reservation holders other than the availability of factory pickup. We also do not have any confirmation yet on how much the destination charge would be for reservation holders and whether or not this would apply for factory pickup orders.

To my thinking it would make sense for Elio Motors to offer delivery to pre-determined locations in the 60 initial markets as part of the standard destination charge. These standard delivery locations could even be Pep Boys locations where available. Elio Motors has also discussed the possibility of offering delivery directly to your home however this likely would be at extra cost.

Once Elio Motors begins retail sales the plan is for the standard destination charge to include delivery to one of the retail locations with home delivery available at an extra cost.

Don't forget... California has some very strange laws with regards to the importation of vehicles purchased in other states. You may very well end up shooting yourself in the foot going this route. Homework is in order.

I talked to Elio Motors about that, I wanted to know if there was going to be any problems with the paperwork for sales of the Elio...

They replied that each States paperwork was different, for three wheel motorcycles and they were going to have all that legal stuff well in place before production time...

So I am guessing they will have it already at time of pick up... I'm picking my Elio up at the plant, no matter what...

If they charge me $500 for delivery charge... then I guess, I get Free shipping because I'm all in for a $1000, just get no bonus...
