Happy Saturday morning Elio’ers!

It’s always a great way to start your weekend, with a guffaw or chortle, and with a just a few sweeps of our trusty mouse and a few clicks on our keypad we hope to entertain!

Our most recent Friday blog edition, rather creatively resurrected from an earlier one, is rich with funny irony and we just want to make sure our esteemed customer base shares in the fun we are having here, at the ‘nerve center’ at Elio Operations HQ!

Just “Who are the Elio Reservation Holders?” We talked yet again about all the hopeful people that ‘stepped forward’ in their zeal, you don’t know how much we appreciate it! Your trust means a lot! No matter your different reasons, you all share one (of a few) big commonalities!!

We decided last week “Enough about that darn vehicle!” But we’d be remiss If we passed up the chance to slip in “up to 84 MPG” and “90 percent North American Content” Whatever that means!! Maybe another commonality we Elio’ers share is our love for fiction: If we get back to writing new blogs we just might explore that topic further!

Our Reservationists fall into exactly two distinct groups: Refundables and Non-Refundables. Yet, you both will share a common outcome, we’ll let you guess what that is: it’ll be the subject of another blog, somewhere!! One big hint: you won’t need a key ring but you will be a little ‘lighter’!!

In closing let’s review Friday’s closing request: “Many current and future reservation holders find out about us because of you, our supporters, and the fact that you spread the word about us. Please continue to spread the word- we can’t tell you how much we appreciate it!”

We are much too busy right now to do that ourselves but we really want you to tell your friends, heck, go and dig up your old Amway and Avon lists: those old friends have forgiven you by now. Incidentally, we aren’t really taking ‘new’ future reservations but don’t want to worry the ‘worry warts!’ We gotta draw the line somewhere but don’t want it to be too obvious. You know how they are, their lying eyes read and believe anything!

Thanksgiving and Leftovers…

Happy Friday Elio’ers! We trust that you had a fantastic Thanksgiving and got to spend some quality time with family and friends. We are shaking off the tryptophan and getting ready for some Black Friday action. This week’s blog is a quick look at some random topics that don’t necessarily fit in their own blog, but are important none the less.

Before we get to that, we want to take advantage of Thanksgiving and give some thanks. First, we are thankful for our families (especially the new babies!), our friends and our health. Those three things give us a good base from which to move forward. We also want to give our thanks to those that have helped make Elio Motors what it is today:

• Our supplier partners who have spent time and resources to get us to a high quality, low cost vehicle and have participated at an incredible level in all aspects of the project
• The Elio Team – at the risk of sounding self-serving, we have a very dedicated team that has given everything they have to get Elio Motors off the ground and to create a great vehicle. Your hours, effort and heart make us what we are now and what we will become.
• And most importantly, we are thankful for you. Elio would not be where we are today without you. You have helped us in so many ways from making reservations, to telling everyone that you know about us, to calling news stations/bloggers/newspapers/radio stations asking them to do a piece on us, to handing out cards to complete strangers! You will be able to celebrate our success with us knowing that you had a significant impact.

Now, some leftovers (the name is not so flattering, but we all love them at Thanksgiving!!)

Spot In Line Emails: We continue to receive questions about the Spot in Line (SIL). The SIL emails go out every 5-6 weeks to the $1,000 All In reservation holders, including those of you that have upgraded from a lower All In reservation to $1,000. Only the new $1,000 All In level reservations receive an email with the number, we do not send emails to the entire list each time. So if you are waiting for your SIL number from March, send us an email (tellmemore@eliomotors.com) because it is way overdue. We have sent out emails to every $1,000 All In reservation holder through November 9, 2014. The next SIL will go out around the last week of December.

Color/Options etc.: Making a reservation is the first step to owning your Elio as your reservation gets you in line to buy. You will take the next step of ordering your Elio through an email link that we will send you approximately two months before we make your exact vehicle. Don’t worry about missing the email because we will communicate to you through EVERY social media outlet! At that time you will be able to choose your color, transmission, and any options that you would like to add to your Elio. We are working on some other items you will be able to complete at that time like financing and delivery. Stay tuned!

Finally, snow driving. This comes up 10 times a day, three times that rate over the last week or two. The Elio is a front wheel drive vehicle with the majority of the weight over the front wheels. It has a low center of gravity as well as traction control and ABS. This will create a lot of “traction action” that will make the Elio handle as well as, if not better than, a similar sized front wheel drive car. We are not a four wheel drive $70,000 SUV, so if there is 5 feet of new snow stay home until the road is plowed… here is the Elio in the snow.

Johnny, the topic was right on the mark and almost perfect for a resubmission except maybe the ‘leftovers’ part was too rich in irony. Who wants leftover ‘leftovers?’ That’s approaching ‘stale.’ Paul and Co. probably thought ‘better avoided’, but no other article appropriate, or suitable, and, of course, why waste the time to write a new one?

It’s “Snow” Problem!

Happy Friday Elio’ers! This time of year, with the Holidays just around the corner, we regularly field a ton of questions about the Elio’s ability to drive in snow (usually not from Hawaii.) We know that many of our supporters already know the answer, but the question persists, so this week we will take a look at the Elio’s drivability in some common driving conditions.

Snow

This question typically comes in two varieties: can the Elio drive in snow and can the Elio replace a snowplow. The answer to the first question is a resounding yes. The answer to the second question is an equally resounding no. By having the engine in the front, and having front-wheel drive, the design of the Elio places the majority of the weight over the front tires, which gives it tremendous traction action. Similarly, with a low center of gravity, traction and stability control, and ABS brakes, the Elio will be able to handle a reasonable amount of snow. It will not replace your SUV, but will still drive just fine in wintery conditions. Check out this video:


Hills

With over 55 foot-pounds of torque, the Elio will be able to handle hilly terrain, no problem. Also, hill start assist now comes standard.

Unpaved/Dirt/Gravel Roads

The Elio is a front-wheel drive vehicle and will be able to handle unpaved, dirt, and gravel roads with relative ease. It is not a work truck though, so if you live 15 miles up a deeply rutted old logging road, with three boulders to drive over, you may want to keep your Elio at the main road and ride the trail with your four-wheel-drive truck.

Wind

The high MPG achieved in the Elio is due, in large part, to its amazing aerodynamics. What aerodynamics do for us is manage the air around the vehicle. This same ability to “slice” through the air is what helps the Elio to remain stable in most high wind situations, including large vehicles passing by.

Ultimately, the Elio is designed to be a solid vehicle for most driving conditions. While it may not replace a four-wheel drive behemoth or snow plow, it will handle driving conditions just as well as most four-wheeled vehicles on the road today, and at a fraction of the price.

Hey, I just always considered my Elio to be my future "enclosed motorcycle".
So I was never seriously going to count on it to navigate a lot of snow.
I'm sure I would have not been able to resist trying in the snow a few times though.
But in reality, we don't have snow on the roads a lot of days out of the year.
I'd be using my Caravan to use on those few days and to haul stuff in.
