Most ARE made from composite materials :)
Well, the frames for them are, the panel is tempered glass.

A plastic roof panel? Maybe in Polycarbonate (aka Lexan); but over time it would scratch really bad; you can polish it out, but that never seems to last very long (look at a plastic window in a convertible after five to eight years, that why most have glass now).
When you have Polycarbonate you have to be careful how you clean it; forget about using a car wash; don't ever wipe it with paper towels (they do scratch plastic if you use the wrong kind), and make sure it's always wet with something (soapy water, glass cleaner).
If you want something like that, go for it; for my own vehicle, I wouldn't do it.
And if you're wondering if I have a sunroof in my personal vehicles; yes, I've had more cars with sunroofs than I have without.

Does the roof in your Smart open?
If it's a 2015 Gen 3 Smart, pano roof, then it is made of Polycarbonate; I think if you read your owners manual it has warnings on how to clean it.
It's one of the few factory roofs that is made of Poly. The 70's and early 80's Corvettes had an aftermarket Poly removable roof panel; they ran into so many problems that most of the people that had bought them, scrapped them. They would scratch, high heat would change their shape and they wouldn't seal worth a darn after 3 or 4 years. So as I covered, they have made them, but you have to be careful cleaning them. Glass is heaver, but also a lot more "forgiving" over the long run.

Here's the vid of the opening, pre Gen 3 Smart roofs.

In the configurator, items listed on the right side of the page have a yellow star. When this yellow star is clicked, other stars show up, some white and some dark. Also, a percentage number appears.

What is this far and what does it mean?

Thanks.

You can vote on the items you like; the ones with a percentage shows current popularity.
What does it mean? Nothing to us so far; it's a popularity vote by those that pay attention to the stars and clicked their choice.
Other then that; they've never said.

Slight update to the Configurator; selections are in a slightly different order than before. e.g. Automatic transmission is listed above Manual, Retro Fenders are listed above Standard, etc. There doesn't seem to be any sort of rhyme or reason to the change.

Also, I noticed that the upper A-arm in the Configurator model matches the design seen in the E-series pictures. Was it always like that? I don't remember.

*Edit*
Another slight update: the TPMS option is no longer marked as "new", so perhaps we could be in for some new options soon? Just checked and nothing yet....

They'r planning on pushing this system at the LA Auto Show, so I hope they have a major upgrade to this very creaky system, along with a broader selection of options. To name a few that are missing, custom seats, various storage devices (visor storage, pouches for door and right side), the promised rear-view camera, fender lights, FLIR, alternative dash instruments, performance tune switch (this may be standard, but probably not), carpet upgrades, VERY LOUD horn -- and I'm sure that there are plenty more useful, attractive items waiting to come. So EM, get on with the show.

So I went out and looked again.
Enhanced Removable Stereo With USB and Connectivity
Enhanced as compared to what. No idea what the standard is.
Retro Fender
We've been told that when you get the Retro Fender it is in addition to the standard fender
Carpeting
So no carpeting is standard. Is it a painted metal floor? A rubber mat?
Guess I don't know enough about anything to make any decisions other than...............
Creamsicle
Manual transmission
Tire Pressure Monitor
Custom Car Cover
Tinted windows
So, first two are required choices, next two are options, last one is after market.

I don't remember a confirmation on getting stock fenders still when you order the retro. Are you positive about this? I know it was a wish of a lot of members here. Can someone confirm?
