Since towing anything behind the Elio will void the warranty then it's a moot point for me. Those that choose to do so will have to assume the risks involved and the liability. As far as towing the Elio behind another vehicle, I can see the the RV crowd wanting to do so. Putting the whole vehicle on a flat bed trailer would probably be the safest. Putting it on a dolly might put extra weight and wear and tear on the rear tire. Also the fender skirts may interfere with the dolly. It will be interesting to see the creativity and hear the stories of those that decide to tow a trailer with their Elios.
I seem to remember reading somewhere that Elio is looking into engineering a small luggage trailer for the Elio so it would be useful for a couple taking a road trip. That's something I'd be interested in.

Luggage carrier that would be mounted in the back hatch, but never a trailer.
A lot of people have asked about trailers, and EM's answer is that they will void the warranty.

Just heard back from Elio about a luggage trailer, they aren't planning to build one themselves. And according to the response below, towing something, provided it's within their engineered towing capacity, will NOT just automatically void the warranty.

Thank you for reaching out to us!
Our plan is to have an extensive “after-sale” options program that will include roof racks, cruise control, back up camera, body modifications, tons of interior comforts etc. The trailer hitch and trailer will have to come from the aftermarket if there is enough demand (which there seems to be) but will not be an Elio after sale part. We have not finalized the towing capacity of the vehicle. While these details including cost are currently being finalized on our end, we will provide more of these details when we get closer to the start of production.

Great to hear from you,
The Elio Team

Yes, that also suggests it's the overnight delivery issue, that why it's not a direct Elio option. The buyer will need to accept delivery, then go to an outlet to find an approved product.

That is new news to me about EM looking in to and establishing a "towing capacity". I thought it was always no and it would void the warranty. The plot thickens!

I'm sure that some folks will want to tow a small boat/jetski .... a few years back we owned a light weight 10' Lowe aluminum boat (picture 1) .... it was bought to use fishing in South Dakota where we spend our summers .... instead of towing it in a campground and launching it with our Freightliner Sportchassis, we used a GEM (street legal) car (picture 2) .... it came in handy for moving picnic tables and other such things .... the 72 Volt, front wheel drive GEM car pulled and launched the boat with ease .... unfortunately, getting the boat out of the water proved to be an exercise in futility .... with the GEM sitting at a nose up angle on a wet, sandy, concrete boat ramp, the front end didn't have sufficient weight to keep the drive tires from spinning .... I have no clue if a front wheel drive Elio will have the same issue .... time will tell

Hmm... how hard would it be to put a hitch on the front of the GEM for boat extraction?
