Okay folks. I don't know how the rest of ya'll drive your vehicles, but I fly by VFR (visual flight rules), and rarely check the instruments while I'm on the road...unless "Johnny Law" shows up on my radar. My eyes are on the road, road hazards [debris] and the idiots around me (yes, I assume they are/you are [no offense] all idiots and out to get me!). It's served me well, and saved my ass more than a few times. If you're "freaking out" over a tach and speedo [I'm more concerned about engine temp and oil pressure], that may or may not be difficult to read, or the design of which makes you so sick to look at that you can't focus on the 'task at hand', then please DO NOT drive your Elio in a 50 mile radius of the St. Louis, MO metro area...you're way to distracted over silly crap, and a danger to myself and others...you might as well be texting and driving while drunk.

Here's a little saying that may help if you're losing sleep over this topic. ;)

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change [The Elio's coming with an Elgin dash, get over it].
The courage to change the things I can [If you can afford a replacement that's acceptable to you...do it!]
And the wisdom to know the difference [If you can't afford to swap the dash...refer back to the first sentence].

Well. I've got "everybody and their cousin" coming to my house in a few hours for Christmas Eve, and need to help the wife prep for the 'chaos' and run to the store to pick up a few things. If I don't get back to the site today, I wish everyone a very merry Christmas! :D

Roger that, CrimsonEclipse! ;)

Not so strangely, the only time in my adult life that I vividly remember cruising down the highway at speed, and was 'hyper aware' of what could come up on me, was going back to Colorado on vacation cruising through Kansas at night. Even with the Jeep's brights on, I couldn't see more than a couple hundred feet in front of me [Kansas is dark as h#ll at night]. Kept waiting for a herd of cattle to appear in the middle of the highway  [mind starts playing tricks on you in the dark!]. A FLIR HUD would've been an option I'd have paid big bucks for on that trip...nervous wreck for hours. Did hit a skunk which immediately woke my pug [and wife] up and made him and her go crazy for like 20 miles.

Screw the Elgin...give me a FLIR HUD for an option. Lots of deer around here!

It's not going to change....no matter how much people complain it will be the Elgin dash.....so complaining without seeing the working final model is a waist of time/energy.

And way to reminiscent of a 5 year old whining continuously when they have been told over and over that they won't get whatever is they want.

The fact that the Elgin dash has created so much controversy and passion should tell Elio that they should take a second look at their decision to use it.

"The secret to failure in a business is to sell only what "you" like." ( An old saying I just made up.)
I'm sure Jobs and Wozniak would wholeheartedly agree with you ... NOT! HP passed on the chance to build and sell this microcomputer their engineers had dreamed up, because it didn't fit with what the management insisted their customer base wanted. Jobs and Wozniak ended up building a computer (the Apple I) that looked and did what THEY wanted. It showed in the design and function of the final product and (most of) its successors.

I hope the EM management listen to what the CUSTOMERS (the ones who actually buy and drive the car) wind up saying, both in comments and in the number of after-product dashes that get sold, and give much less credence to the standard auto magazine reviewers. The only thing I might change at this point (judging by videos only) would be to make the dials at least 10% but no more than 20% larger.

Altho I agree with most of your post,
On what "solid information" do you base this? What is the current "size" of the dials?
