I really don't care. I wish Tesla all the luck in the world, but the cost of it vs the cost of my Elio puts the two in two different markets. Plus I don't like paying my electric bill, so why on earth would I want to add to it, caring around a big heavy battery. Do you know the hassle towing one of those heavy monsters? You guessed it, I am not in the Tesla market. GO ELIO!

If Paul Elio has learned from the mistakes of others more power to him. Why reinvent the wheel if someone else has done it. To me that means he is a person smart enough to use what is available and then grow with it. As I have watched the progressions of information in my reading since January he has proven himself to be a very savvy car guy. That works for me because frankly I am not a savvy car gal. I know what I like and I make sure my older son has the instruction manual for my car so I can call him for advice when some one suggests I need something done. Actually this was his idea and it has worked very well for me. There was mention on a Cartalk show some time in the last couple of months of research that had been done on treatment of women by car service and sales staff. The research showed 100% of the time if a man and woman came into a shop with identical cars with identical problems the woman would be charged more. Considering women now make up more than 51% of drivers (see USA article) and make less money for doing the same work with the same skills as men I figure I need all the help I can get. I am glad my son loves the Elio because I know I can count on him to help me figure out what is needed. OK I will get off that soap box. Thanks to those who took the time to read. LOL Z

Elio Motors definitely studied Tesla when coming up with this plan and I believe this is the sales model a number of new vehicle manufactures will use in the future. The good news for Elio is that Tesla has already used its greater resources to blaze this path. I remember reading about Tesla running into legal issues as selling cars this way is actually against the law in some states. Traditional franchise dealerships over the years have managed to create a whole legal framework protecting their business model under the guise of consumer protection. Tesla has been working on this issue for several years now the same way Elio Motors is having to convince state governments to change some laws regarding helmets and motorcycle endorsements.

Tesla has certainly blazed a trail for others to follow but we must not forget the one huge difference between Tesla and Elio. Elio is defined as a motorcycle therefore it does not have to meet all the same requirements Tesla does.

I think Tesla sells automobiles and has to deal with an established practice of dealerships that have a lot of legal clout, thus causing Tesla a lot of grief. Elio's situation is a bit different, primarily because it is not a car nor is it really a motorcycle.
