Another thing to contemplate with regard to a smaller fuel tank is the impending menace of the blender pumps and E85.

There are several motorcycle groups that have mobilized to fight the expansion of blender pumps especially when used with E85 and other high alcohol blends. The reason being is that there is always something left in the hose from the last fill.
If the elio were to have a 4 gallon tank it would be exposed to the same fueling issues that motorcyclists have.

THAT IS WHY YOU WILL NEVER SEE DIESEL DISPENSED FROM THE SAME NOZZLE AS GAS .
THIS WOULD BE BAD FOR THE GAS ENGINE BUT POSSIBLY CATASTROPHIC FOR THE DIESEL !

The motorcycle I use for long trips (2003 Kawasaki ZG1000) has a 7 gallon fuel tank. I've used 6.9 gallons several times. The 8 gallon tank in the Elio sounds just right to me.

My 2.1 gallon tank is very jealous of your 7 gallon tank! I love the look of my bike and it works for my commute but means I have to fill up once per ride to work.

That's a lot of stops at a gas station. At least in good weather.
Do you keep gas cans at home so you don't have to stop? That would make sense to me.

If my bike were used for joy rides on the weekend it would drive me nuts, for sure. But since I only commute into the office twice per week hitting the nearby gas station is not too bad.

Since the Elio will be my stand-in for foul weather days and around town errand running, I expect to fill that up about once every two months, LOL.

I'll let you know. I have an 84 mile commute [...] I can get 27 out of a Grand Caravan, [...] So I think I have a good chance to beat that 84mpg level.
That's funny. My daily commute is ~82, round trip. On the rare occasion that I drive the 2015 Grand Caravan to work, I average ~28 mpg. (29 on the way there, and 27 on the way home.) I'm pretty sure I'll be getting at least the rated mileage for the Elio, whatever that ends up being.

Little note; they changed the shape of the tank, not the volume to accommodate lowering the rear seat. This is one of the reasons they can no longer run the exhaust pipe under the car, and that's where the side exhaust came from. Changing one thing in a small car effects 2 or 3 other things.

Can the seat be raised aftermarket to accommodate 5'9" people who are too fat to get out of a very low car? One of the reasons I bought the Baja was the height of the seat to ground. Of course I was trading in a Del Sol. I had to roll out on the ground and sit up.

Don't forget to add some Stabil to the tank so it doesn't go bad while sitting. :becky:
