Wing Windows

I think it was in the late 70's that Lincoln came up with a power wing window that was completely different then all of the others.
Rather than swing out, you'd push down on the window switch, and the wing window would go down, into the door, rather than swinging out.
Once it was all the way down, the main window would go down into the door.
Up was just the opposite; main window first, then the (as Lincoln called it) "Vent window" next.
I guess they figured since it went up and down, rather than swing out, swing in; it needed a new name too.

I like the wing windows too, but I was thinking that the back windows should pivot out like Geo and many other hatchbacks. The person in the back needs the option and the extra flow is nice for the driver too. Does anyone know if there is a plan to have the rear window pivot out an inch or two? They were fixed on the P5.

They mentioned it before but I haven't heard anything about the rear windows in a while. I agree that it would be nice it they'd rotate open...

Big fan of wing windows! Got them on the F-250 and they really do increase the airflow through the A/C and heater [and vent]. Super nice when it's raining, and a whole lot quieter going down the road at hwy speeds. Don't know for sure, but I'd bet that they're better on your mpg cracked open than a "standard" window cracked down. As for the back windows swinging/popping out. If they're not an option from Elio, the aftermarket will take care of it ala VW bugs conversions.

They mentioned it before but I haven't heard anything about the rear windows in a while. I agree that it would be nice it they'd rotate open...

I've had those manual swing-out windows in the rear of a couple of minivans and my old Opel Rallye. If you're moving over 20 mph, they don't admit much rain, but as soon as you stop, you get water driving in the open window. Power vents would be nice, but an easier and cheaper fix might be a cable control routed up to a spot in reach of the driver - say, just to the rear of the front seat. Early MoPar minivans had levers on the back of the center console that opened and closed the windows using cables something like the throttle cable on an outboard motor.

Otherwise you have to pick a service station or drive-in business with an awning to get out and close those windows without getting soaked.

Lucky for us, you should be able to reach them from the driver's seat. The Honda Odyssee had powered vent windows. My truck has a powered rear window which works great for modulating the amount of wind in your face. I can usually set that and the sunroof so I get a gentle breeze at highway speeds. If the sunroof is popped up in the back to vent, it can work alone but if I slide it back, the wind can get to be too much after a while without that back window opened. I'm certain if the Elio has optional rear vent windows that I'll get them.

I had them on the windshield(s) on my 67 VW bus

i had pop out windows on the back seat side areas on my sentra, was great when i locked my keys in the car, but the down side is, it only took a Philips screwdriver to take them off from the outside if they weren't securely popped down. it would be nice to have the rear vent windows open able, but rain and security issues would definitely need to be addressed.

All just equates to more $$$$ and postponed production time
