New manufacturers in CT. must be on the "LIST" and pay an annual fee ( $2500.00),as do ALL major mfgs.

No wonder new vehicles cost so much... and why most people go thru a Dealership.

Vehicle types that must have a VIN verified at a DMV Inspection Lane:

• • Three-wheeled vehicles, except Harley Davidson, and Can Am (Spyder);

Have a bunch of friends that have tried to register other 3-wheelers and/or "neighborhood" vehicles. All failed in CT due to "the List". Called DMV and was told the Elio is currently illegal in CT. Haven't figured out how they can fine you if you live in another state and drive your legally registered Elio in CT, but CT is VERY irritable about people registering vehicles in other states when they reside in CT. All money grabbing IMO.

Three-Wheeled Vehicles: that have or are designed to have a driver’s seat that is completely enclosed and a motor which is not in the enclosed area are not motorcycles under Connecticut law, and may not be registered as motorcycles.



NOTE: If you are about to purchase a three-wheeled vehicle with an enclosed driver’s seat or a kit for assembling such a vehicle, first call 860-263-5080 to determine whether it may be registered in Connecticut. Connecticut motor vehicle law may differ from other state and federal law. Many three-wheeled vehicles with enclosed seats cannot practically be modified to meet the Connecticut passenger vehicle requirements.

OK ! Finally... WE HAVE a public act as of July 1st. If it remains unchallenged for one year, it will become law.

AN ACT CONCERNING THE DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES' RECOMMENDATIONS WITH RESPECT TO AUTOCYCLES AND THREE-WHEELED MOTORCYCLES.

As of July 1st, 2016 Autocycles (Elio, Slingshot, Morgan, etc) can be registered in CT. No motorcycle endorsement or helmet is required.

The Elio is not a car, not a motorcycle, not a three wheeled motorcycle, IT IS A "AUTOCYCLE."
