Kids would not know how to operate the manual windows. Perfect example: Ask a kid what a rotary dial telephone is and how to dial a number. All you'd get is a blank look on their faces. Now-a-days everything is controlled by a button or a switch.
............motion sensors and voice commands............Elio.......open says me!

I agree that an electric door lock by itself doesn't make any sense. Think about it. I'm not talking about key fob unlocking of a door, I'm talking about having that unlock/lock button on the door instead of a button that you have to pull (yes, electric door locks still have that button usually but you don't HAVE to pull it). Now, put yourself in that Elio... When would you ever use that unlock button? It isn't much easier to hit the unlock button than pull up the knob. Having said that, electric door unlock allows for easy integration of that key fob unlocker ($4.95 on ebay and it takes about 5 minutes to program... looks identical to my truck remote or at least on my old truck it did. In fact, it was cheaper to buy a new one than buy batteries for the dead one). I like not having to stab a key at night or when my hands are full. My Elio will have that feature whether it comes like that, it's an option, or I have to go in and put it together myself.

The only reason I can see for power windows is so I can control the passenger windows from the drivers seat. If both sides of the vehicle are right next to me I can crank the windows myself and the only reason I can see for power door locks is so I don't have to lean over or walk around to the other side of the vehicle to lock the passenger door HELLO! There's only one door. If you're serious about keeping weight down on the vehicle lose two electric motors, one solenoid, the associated wiring and give me two window cranks and a key.

Hey ross welcome aboard --- I know it doesn't seem to make any sense but you have to realize the Elio is using as many "off the shelf" parts as possible. Power window and power locks are common and readily available at a good price. Manual locks and windows are rare. We've also been told the power windows and locks are actually lighter.
