The more I think about the front fenders on the Elio the more problems I can see with the design. The biggest problem I can see is structural cracking from the road vibrations. These fenders are un sprung and will suffer from every bump and ripple in the roadway.

As Zipper said they do appear to be fairly substantial and not just flimsy pieces of plastic. It would be nice to see one unmounted to get a look at how they are constructed so we have a better idea of how well it will likely hold up.

"There is also an inner fender liner for both the front wheels and rear wheel"
I wonder if the liner is metal?

I would think that the ENGINEERS that designed them;...... might just have taken that into consideration when they designed them!

I haven't seen a metal wheel liner on a modern car of any make since maybe the late 40's maybe early 50's. so I would really doubt it, particularly in view of weight.

I doubt it's made of the same stuff the outer finder is made of. I would consider the inside to be a high abrasion area. What do you think it's made of and do you think that material would contribute to the stabilization of the finder on a whole?

I would expect them to be made of pretty much the same material as we find on our cars today, anf that is plastic in one form or another. It is abrasion resistant fairly thick material, probably a poly of some sort. I hope to see the P4 a week from today, and if I remember I will ask. It would most certainly strengthen the shroud as a unit.

Sounds like a plan.
