In this you tube video, what on earth comes out of the front of the truck?
Is this staged?
It starts at 1:35.

The long thing sticking out from the front is part of the black plastic of the bumper. Yeah, looks like the turbo probably blew apart and sent things out the front. In 20 years working on diesels I have seen some pretty gnarly things come into the shop!

Dodge Rams have an intercooler for the turbo sitting right in front of the radiator. Looks like he cranked up the pressure a little too much and launched the plastic bumper [as msmith5150 stated] out the front. Wouldn't have wanted to be standing in front of the truck when it blew!!

If the object is just to get to the top of the hill, slow and steady wins the race in the loose stuff. It's all about torque - and not losing your grip. Get into lo-low and crawl, if necessary, but you'd be amazed at the progress you'll make. Once traction is lost, all that horsepower just goes to burying you up to the axles. Then the motor lets go, creating additional income for your engine builder.

Little difference in dune sand like that, it's almost a fluid.

Lots of wheelspin creates thrust more like a boat propeller than a standard tire.

Agreed! in sand, the object is to travel over it as quickly as possible rather than through it. Learned that the hard way as a kid trying to ride a bicycle on the beach. Hello handlebars!
