I found this to be a very good article, if EM has any partnerships or banks willing to loan or invest into them money. So, EM can keep their word that the 65K Elios will be built in 2018, that they should start speaking up so all of their share holders can regain more confidence in EM
Cheaper? The article starts of: ".....Starting at $20,395......" $20K isn't cheap!.No, you can get these active safety features on much cheaper vehicles:

Yeah, but that's "cheaper" than $60k.
But we have no idea how much the option costs.
And it isn't even what it costs.
It's how much you will be forced to pay when the make it a requirement because some people buy it.
That's when they'll say 'But a lot of cars already have it so it should be required on all cars'.
That's the slippery slope that you seem to want to slide on.
Well the option to add it to a Honda Civic is $1,000.
I think most vehicles would benefit from active safety features, but no I don't think it should be forced. Currently, it's simply that the vehicle cannot get a 5 star crash safety rating (with IIHS) without it. It's not mandated like rear-view cameras.
Rear view cameras aren't either.
Oh wait ..... They are starting next year.
And $1000 is more than 10% of the cost of an Elio.
But the people who make the regulations wont care.
Why?
Because when you make over $50K / yr, $1K isn't that much.
But for the people who make under $25K / yr, that's where they can't afford it and have to buy a junker that they can't depend on so they can't take the better job.
Incidentally, that's $1000 added on to the technology base that's already there.
The alternative to the "racket" is runaway pollution and smog, like they currently have in places like China, India, and central Europe where some people have to wear masks outdoors so they breathe. They buy a junker because they are broke. Then depending on the state they have to pass emissions. The beater car has some minor issue like a bad o2 sensor or minor vacuum leak. That broke person takes a car to a shop and pays $500 just to pass emissions.
What a racket.
