Newcomer NIO not a threat to ELIO.

Of course, the problem with that is when companies do well (stocks up), they tend to hire more people. People who want to work do and people who don't want to work don't.

BOOBOO ..was making this point even though he hangs around a bear that STEALS PEOPLES PICNIC BASKETS.

well geez….thanks for pointing that out. Today's cars are so reasonable in price, I guess there's no need for the Elio!!
We had this same conversation at a friends house over labor day weekend. He was claiming ho cheap his first new car was and how expensive the one he currently bought. His first new car was a 1980 Chevette. I looked up what it cost and it was $4600. He claimed it was only a couple of grand but I could not find a car that cheap no matter what. His new car is a Cadillac CT6 and he paid $60K for it. So, for him a $60K Cadillac is way more expensive than a Chevette was 38 years ago. So the brand new Cadillac is 13X more expensive than the Chevette if you never account for inflation (if you do, it's 4.3X). On the other hand, comparing a Chevette to a Cadillac is probably not the best argument. He told me he'd never buy a Spark because those are cheap and junky. I put it as he's not ever going to spend just over $13K for a new car because he's way more money today and is looking at what he's going to do for retirement (which I know is going to be moving where's it's warm and something overly big for what him and his wife need.

So what Elio is doing is something we even needed back in 1978. Look how cheap the Elio would have been when you compare other cheap cars you could get. So for at least 40 years we have needed the Elio right now and at least it'll be soon when we will have that $1,900 brand new car (corrected for 1978 dollars) in our garage.

“So for at least 40 years we have needed the Elio right now...”

I couldn’t agree with statement any more. Absolutely spot on!

I wished I could remember the year - but my Dad bought a new B210 for my sister. It cost $1,976. (I couldn’t forget that number.) I guess it was in the late 60’s or early 70s. She drove that little car like a bat out of hell. Never less that 80 mph on the interstates. It never gave one bit of trouble. Low (reasonable) price doesn’t always equate to an inferior product.

Here’s an interesting one.
1968 Beetle- $1,699
1968 dollars today - $11,967
1968 Elio - $1,058
1968 Beetle sales - 399,674 (best year ever)

So in 1968 imagine how well the Elio would have done. The Beetle cost 40% more than the Elio did back then. So the need for the Elio has been at least 50 years now. VW knocked out of the park back then. Elio would have beat the best selling car of all time. Imagine today.

The Honda Civic has current model. Why compare to a different model?
