It would be interesting to know, just how many cars the first years production was slated for & at what point do they stop ( if at all ) taking pre-orders?

I want to say that Mr. Elio was projecting 250,000 a year like 5 years out from the start of production ( at least that's from what I can recall ).

Would be great to log 50,000. Pre-orders before Christmas!
Ok now I'm going to look up what the most pre-orders are for a new model car

Really, Tesla? Hmmmm. . . . . Really trying to "slow down reservations," or is that the best they can muster? Hmmm. . . . .

Yes, I read that Tesla stopped taking pre-orders on the model S after just 6,500 units.
While I have not been able to find good details regarding the most pre-orders for a new vehicle, it does seem that our number of > 30,000 units is in a class of it's own. I did find some numbers that show Elio was projecting some financials based on first year sales of 66,333 units. We have about half of those accounted for already in PRE-ORDERS. I also was able to see that as a point of reference that Mini Coopers total sales in 2012 was about 65,000 units. I truly believe that once people see one in person or better yet drive one & realize it's with-in there budget to own one right now, the sales are going to explode. Not to mention that the OEM's are starting to through crazy money at chasing the next level CAFE requirements. Not sure about you folks, but I have been dreaming of just the type of car Mr. Elio is working on here. My first house cost $48,000 the next Ford F150 will cost about the same. o_O
