The Elio Automatic Transmission

A friend put in a two pole switch in line with the starter solenoid. In the normal position the starter is activated, in the other position it only blows the horn.

nice .... that's the first time I've heard of such a mod

Is there any info on the automatic transmission?

I test drove a Smart Car a few years ago that has a CVT (continuously variable transmission). The Smart CVT is totally unacceptable because it produces a pronounced 'lurch' when it shifts. I actually felt a bit motion sick from just a short test drive.

Pleeeeeease tell me the Elio will avoid that ?!?!

There is no shift, no lurch, just smooth check out the design, any google seach will do!

I once owned a Dutton Phaeton (Lotus 7 type of car with a soft top) as my daily driver. I used to carry a socket spanner and removed the steering wheel and took it with me to prevent the car being stolen.

I'm thinking we need a thread on the forum here, that addresses different ideas and plans for making the Elio not-so-desirable for theft. Do we have such a thread yet?

hey folks- did everyone forget-@ 1200 lbs, a truck and 3-4 guys, and it's in a container ship to South America overnight! ( lots of cars stolen in South Florida meet such fate, and H.D.

I doubt anyone will be stealing your ELIO anytime soon. 1. LE would not have to hard of a time picking it out, fake plates will not help it blend in.
2.No value on the chopping block yet. I think your ELIO will be safe for awhile.
