I kind of remember Jerome saying in OKC they are using the aisin Japanese 5 sp. AMT transmission and if you want a review go to you tube and check out the 2014 Suzuki celerio clips...looks like it will work..but, now a IAV/Japanese engine and a Japanese transmission...hopefully both will be made here.

The basis for the engine may have been the old Geo/Suzuki engine however this new version was engineered by an IAV team in Michigan and is going to be assembled by Elio Motors at the Shreveport plant.
Aisin has very large network of development, testing, and manufacturing facilities in the USA employing thousands of Americans. It would not surprise me at all if transmission integration testing and programming as well as manufacturing of the actual transmission were done here in the USA.

From the 2014 Suzuki Celario website:

"
The A-Star was offered with an automatic but Maruti Suzuki has opted for a cost effective solution with the Celerio, which uses an automated manual transmission, technology sourced from Magneti Marelli. This transmission is shared with the manual and doesn’t have a torque converter (thereby returns the same mileage as a manual), instead it uses an ECU to control gear shifts (using actuators), eliminating the need of a physical clutch. There is a creep mode which prevents clutch wear in slow moving conditions while a hold function prevents roll back on slopes. You have the option of leaving the box in auto mode while there is a manual mode as well (slot the lever to the left) wherein you can keep the gear engaged till redline to extract the most out of this mill. The EZ Drive does make driving very convenient but is very jerky and you can feel the clutch being activated most of the time. Since this is an automated manual gearbox, there is no P mode like in traditional automatics (there is M, D, N and R modes). The company claims a fuel efficiency of 23.1 km/l which is quite impressive.

This + horribly grinding my father's manual transmission through poor clutching are the reasons I've always had automatic in my own cars. The AMT in that post resolves all 3 issues.

Elio actually received the product from IAV in February, my understanding is that it is undergoing testing and fine tuning for 84mph, and with the P5 launch expected for June/July that definitely meets the "ready for 2nd quarter 2014" statement - which I haven't seen for myself.

oh so it's in a vehicle and cold weather testing is being done like other OEM's on a complete vehicle? Lab is only part of equation. Need to test whole vehicle in cold and hot climates.
