I guess I'm missing your point.

Maybe he is busting on his wife for thinking it was a CVT even though it had the +/- for gear shifts? Looks like the Sportage only comes with the 6 speed AT.

I am sure they could make the software change the RPM range on a CVT to fake up/downshifts if they wanted...

WaaHoo! That's 3X the cost of ATF unless you go with some kind of exotic like Castrol Transmax Full Synthetic Multi-Vehicle ATF designed specifically for transaxles

Then you're talking $7.19 a quart <OOOOooooooooooo ;)>

The hot go-to transmission fluid for the 2006-2015 5 and 6 speed Miata manuals is the Ford Motorcraft XT-M5-QS. It supposedly makes the transmission nice and smooth and helps get rid of a crunchy 1/2 and 2/3 shift: https://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Ford...ransmission/dp/B000NUES82?tag=viglink20337-20

It takes 2.2 qts, so 3 bottles. I will be changing mine soon, so we shall see if it lives up to the hype.

This transmission talk is confusing. My brother has an Altima. It is a CVT. It has + and -.
What transmission is in the Sportage if not a CVT. Don't think it is an AMT or a torque converter type.

According to the build section of Kia's website, all three trims of the new models have: Electronically Controlled 6-Speed Automatic Overdrive w/ Sportmatic® . So the old fashioned torque converter type. The sister Hyundai Tucson gets the 7 speed DCT is seems, but not the Sportage.

So it sounds like the Sportage is the MMT (the Automatic that you can pretend your a race driver as you click it through the gears).

OK the MMT and the AMT are the same thing just 2 different ways of saying it.

I like moving to fewer moving part too. LOL That's why the trend to 3 cyl engines same as the Elio. By the way did anyone catch that post featuring Nissans latest 3 cyl engine?
Getting a lot of power out of a small engine is not an accomplishment when money is no problem.

What is an accomplishment is getting a lot of power out of a small engine but still being affordable.

Glad we got that cleared up...

So, the automatic Elio will have a transmission similar to the Sportage. (5 vs. 6 gears)

Sorry to dump on your theory guys, but the attached story mentions a torque converter.
----> http://kia-buzz.com/6-speed-automaticmanual-transmission-for-all-new-sportage/ <---
(around paragraph 8 ..."Furthermore, the new application of an ultra flat torque converter (which transmits the engine’s driving power to the vehicle) resulted in a more compact package,:...)
The Elio automatic has an electronically controlled clutch to transmit power from the engine to the wheels.
So, the Sportage is a true automatic transmission.
The Elio is an automated manual transmission.
