I will be asking the Elio rep directly next week if they currently plan on including this radio standard or as an option. I will be getting this system either way however this very well could be a standard radio as the prices have dropped on this kind of system tremendously and it does not even have a CD player which could be an option.

I purchased a bluetooth radio kit for my motorcycle helmet at retail for under $100 and that was over a year ago. The helmet systems are usually more expensive as they have to be so small, waterproof, and include a battery and speakers. Knowing that I can only imagine how little something like this would cost right now when purchased in quantity direct from the manufacturer.

Possible option could be no radio at all, just a mounting slot, then pick the goodies of your choice in the aftermarket store and go crazy! I like that idea best of all. Why have the vehicle come standard with something a lot of people would just rip out?

On the other hand, why eliminate something that others of us fully intend to use. The only time I don't use my radio in my car is when I have a passenger. If I'm going through a part of the country where I can't find a station I like I resort to audio books. Otherwise I love my radio. :-) Z

I agree! My car has AM/FM/CD and 99% I have the radio going.. Prefer a good quality radio with a strong tuner anyday!

From a marketing perspective including a radio in the base price is the way to go as the vast majority of car buyers expect this to be included in their vehicles even in the sub-compact economy car segment. The overwhelming majority of new cars never have their head units replaced as most people are perfectly happy with the functionality of the OEM unit.
If I were Elio what I would do is keep the marketing advantage of the radio in the base price but offer a radio delete option. I doubt the stock head unit costs much so this option would likely only save buyers a few dollars however it does contribute to the idea that you can order this vehicle to suit your needs.

I really like the radio / smart phone option. I usually ad a power sub to my factory units to round out the sound.

Depends on the plan Zelio. In my area the cheapest plan is $9.99 a MONTH plus: * Additional Fees & Charges: Early cancellation fee may apply. Prices do not reflect applicable taxes, fees and charges. All fees and programming subject to change.
Who knows how much that adds. The next plan up with decent talk radio is $14.99 a month.

But they always give you free access certain times of the year to test it out. I listen to it a little then. I had 1 year free service when I bought my car though. But I don't subscribe. Too expensive IMO, and personally, I hate the sound quality. It sounds like it's playing underwater ( a little, only description I can come up with) to me. I'm lucky enough to have a phone with a data plan provided through my work, so I listen to Pandora (free) from my phone through bluetooth in my car. Sound is 10x better too. If I can dock my phone to the Elio system, I'm a happy camper.
And x2 on adding a small subwoofer like the Infinity Basslink to round out the sound.

Of course, it would be nice to just have the phone connected via bluetooth. That way, you could play music you have on your phone, or off some app like spotify, Amazon Prime, iTunes, Rdio, etc...
