I am also curious about the significance of 7600. I wonder if anyone actually knows because after all, you can't really number your own address. Those are usually assigned by some government agency somewhere. :) Z
The link to the Caddo Parish web site.

you can do a word search on the home page for Elio Motors, and read the meeting minutes from all the last years parish meeting to get filled in on all the past issues. As I understand it. There was a Japanese air conditioning company who was going to take over the factory and supply twice as many jobs as Elio, and they had the money already to do so. When they decided they didn't want the plant, that cleared the way for Elio to get the plant, even though they didn't have the funds, Stewart Lichtor (one of the board members) purchased the plant, and leased it back to Paul.

IRG, Stuart Lichter's company, was originally supposed to buy the plant for $7.5 million however this is not what ended up happening.

What eventually happened was that Elio Motors was able to convince Caddo Parish to purchase the plant instead and then lease it to IRG which specializes in developing these type of industrial properties. IRG plans to lease about a third of the property to Elio Motors at a very favorable rate and find tenants for the rest of the property which is how they will make money on this deal. Elio Motors also managed to convince Mr Lichter/IRG to invest the $7.5 million into Elio Motors as it was no longer needed to purchase the plant.

Getting Caddo Pariah to purchase the property was a brilliant business move however it also led to many months of added drama and ultimately nearly cost Elio Motors the plant. Most of the Caddo Parrish commission was in favor of the plant purchase however one commissioner was extremely opposed to the idea. That commissioner first delayed the deal for months because she filed a lawsuit which was ultimately dismissed then she convinced the state to intervene which led to the failed attempt to have another company take over the plant.

Thanks for the clarification Goffy.

Goofyone, you have a Master's Degree in Eliology! Do you write columns/articles for a living? If not, you should! [insert genuflecting emoticon here].

Nope, just an engineer. Writing all those reports and proposals over the years must have been good experience after all.:D

I would love to write some articles about Elio Motors! If anyone understands that process please contact me as the quality of many of the articles about EM has not been all that great. I know the biggest issue is that reporters are just not given much time to dig into a subject before writing an article to meet a deadline.:(

Three engineering students were gathered together discussing who must have designed the human body.
One said, "It was a mechanical engineer. Just look at all the joints."
Another said, "No, it was an electrical engineer. The nervous system has many thousands of electrical connections."
The last one said, "No, actually it had to have been a civil engineer. Who else would run a toxic waste pipeline through a recreational area?

It would be really nice if you could provide some hints as to 'who' this commissioner is. I don't think she would mind a visit from a few of us, while exchanging some colorful words. Just saying. :)

Do you make these things up or are just naturally talented that way? LOL :-) Z

I would love to go see her once I get my Elio and thank her for trying to stop it. Sometimes a catalyst like that is what it takes to get things moving in the long run even though it takes longer to get there in the short run. A lot of people dug in their heels to fight her but in the end Elio got a better deal. :-) Z
