Not an unreasonable question to be sure, just statistically unlikely. If we were to design totally safe vehicles for every circumstance that 'could' happen, we would be driving big plastic bubbles. Everything has a level of acceptable risk. From the design of the Elio, it doesnt appear that the center of gravity would be such that it would normally come to rest on its side, certainly that risk is greater in a car with its relatively flat sides. It could roll up against an object, but again, that reduces the statistics even more (what percentages of accidents involve this).
You could always design a kickout roof panel if this was a big concern. I would expect the risk level to be higher for a rear passenger, so maybe thats an option.

Really. Heavy doors? Is that why you drive a tractor instead of a car? It does make self extraction a lot easier. :)

Just simple physics. lifting an object up is harder than pushing it to the side. I'm just saying bust the glass and clime out or wait for the rescue squad to cut the top off with there can opener, I guess then you would have the stat for a convertible.;)

Really?
Window - Noun
An opening in the wall or roof of a building or vehicle that is fitted with glass or other transparent material in a frame to admit light or air and allow people to see out. Or simply to see through.
Or maybe even climb out of the opening?

That is some Funny S*@T. LOL. I just visualized myself trying to be Birthed out of the back hatch while the radio is repeatedly playing the lyric for a Jack In the Box! If that was the only exit I would be better off carrying a half gallon of butter with me over the window hammer. Lol. Thanks for the visual Zelio! You seem like a Very nice person I would love to meet some day.

Just like Ace Ventura exiting the mechanical Rhino? LOL

My wife keeps a simple spring loaded center punch... they cost about $15 and take up about as much room as a pen. She's convinced she'll end up in a lake and the electric windows won't work. There was a news story on TV about it and the reporter couldn't kick out a window while the car was filling up but he used the little center punch and simply pressed it against the window and it just popped into a million little pieces. I guess IF the Elio was on it's side and IF no one was nearby who could tip over a precariously balanced 1200 LB car...
