"This afternoon, Elio Motors was kind enough to bring a prototype of its three-wheeled car to Road & Track's New York City office for a test drive. It went great—right up until the left front fender fell off in the middle of Manhattan traffic."

Maybe it was on purpose....like a wardrobe 'malfuntion'. Showing off a little more that you are supposed to, attracts more attention. Huba huba, seeing beneath the fenders...Road & Track got a chance to test drive the P5. So they livestreamed it on Facebook

It is the super-secret hydroplaning jet ski option. Fenders come down over the wheels to create hydroplaning effect and wonky exhaust is really a modified jet thrust. Are you kidding? That's not a problem, that's the new emergency braking feature! Explosive bolts jettison the fender, which lifts the wheel off the ground and skids the car to a safe stop
"Elio fender, we have not been properly introduced. My name is Weld, J.B. Weld"I HAVE A GREAT IDEA .
PAUL SHOULD SWING A DEAL WITH A MOVIE COMPANY TO WORK ONE OF THE E-SERIES CARS
INTO A SEAT OF THE PANTS CHASE SCENE .
AT SOME POINT WHEN THE CARS ARE GOING VERY FAST , BOTH FENDERS COME OFF ,
SPIN UNDER THE FRONT TIRES & FLIP INTO THE AIR , SPINNING LIKE BOOMERANGS .
EACH FENDER LANDS ON THE WINDSHIELD OF A PURSUING CAR SENDING THEM OUT OF CONTROL .
IF JAMES BOND IS DRIVING , THIS WILL BE A SPECIAL SPY FEATURE WHERE HE PUSHES A BUTTON TO DEPLOY THE FENDERS .
WHY NOT ? HE DROVE A CITROEN 2CV IN "FOR YOUR EYES ONLY"
You should check out the R&T article. They were very understanding, and explained that this kind of thing is known to happen with prototypes.
I wonder what this does for P5 appearances. They will have to get the fender repaired, or another one fabricated. Maybe they already have some spares they can pull from the E series builds.
I don't blame you... (from across the river in Papillion, NE)I was going take a vacation to Colorado and see the P5 at the Air Force Academy next weekend (Sunday 8/9). If it's not repaired in time and it's not going to be there, I'm changing my plans. I've already seen the P3 & P4.
My favorite quote of the article:
"Anyway, I think it looks way more badass with open wheels."
