That may be it, but it looks like the group2 idea is undefined at the moment. But I get what you mean.

We have at least 3 groups to consider. And these access one of either reservations or pre-orders.
Group 1: everyone up to 65k reservations.
+ > Delivery "Sorted" first by all in or not,
+ > Then sorted by reservation amount, All-In $1k first, All-In $500 second .. etc. (as stated previously )
Group 2: everyone after the group1 program ended and until EM starts taking pre-orders.
+ > Will likely not have a 'committed' requirement or offer.
+ > Price will be set at $7300 or slightly more.
+ > Will this be reservations or pre-orders?
+ - Could go either way.
+ > If reservations and still has levels, will the 1000's from group 2 be mixed in with the delivery order with group 1?
+ - I gather we all think mixing would be unjust. And does seem unlikely from a business relations point of view.
+ -- but yes, EM could choose to keep the Group as part of group 1.
+ > Will there be level amounts like before?
+ - EM could very well just adopt one all-in reservation amount, but this amount depends on their desire for money.
+ -- let me guess, it depends on the ATVM approval.
+ > Will there be a All-In vs not?
+ - Seems to be no need to complicate things with a two-way program, it will be one or the other.
+ -- Most likely all-in only. If so, this could solidify that Group 2 is separate from Group 1.
Group 3: After the reservation program is over, I expect the following to be the case;
+ > first come first serve
+ > one fixed deposit amount. Probably $100.
+ > Price will be set at $7300 or slightly more, could be more than the Group 2 offer..
+ - price can not go above what the EM business model suggests.
+ -- I'd say very max at well under $9k, best to stay under $7900 base pricing.
+ > Very carefully not called a reservation, now a pre-order.
+ - The word 'Order' has an implied commitment for both sides in sales.
+ -- On an 'order' EM must deliver but the customer has simply put the deposit at risk.
+ > Start group3 close to or after production actually starts.
+ -- this is because it is a commitment. And therefore the Production must be a reliable dependency.

Edited- Note: You need to understand, in the case of most any change to the on-going terms of the reservation program, those people can not be easily mixed in with the prior group, since this would undermine the prior terms and therefore could be considered a breaking of the contract. Such a case could force a return of the all-in deposits in a class action law-suit.

I was thinking along these same lines late yesterday, but no matter what EM wants to do. They are bound by the original terms of agreement. I think that is what EM will stick to till production starts.

I'm not sure when exactly, but the reservation counter updated again. 63,129 (1871 remaining) as of 12/15/2016.

Probably still about 34/day assuming that happened recently.
Probably today, then.

I'm still adding numbers to my graph, but don't have time to post it right now.

57.34 days left ;)
Using a running month beginning on 11/17/2016, I first determined that the average reservation rate per day was 33. At that rate then 53 more days are needed to hit the "Sold Out" date which I determined to be February 9, 2017.
Are there any marketing majors out there that have ideas for boosting the reservation rate?

No marketing major here, but my idea is a completed hand built proof of concept Elio, followed up with the Ride and Drive Event tour schedule EM planned a couple years back.............would drive reservations, as well as, the VC funding needed to start production.

Exactly... put it in the hands of the consumer and reservations will skyrocket :D

Good enthusiasm Bikebrains! I like it.

On a positive and realistic note... Unfortunately, nothing is going to happen that moves the needle, as Paul likes to say, when the reservation total gets to 65,000. Nothing big or different will occur, behind the scenes or publicly.

When gas prices took a dive and bottomed out below $2 a gallon, some folks stated that until gas prices start to get back up to a high level, there just won't be a demand for the Elio. The more I see the deadlines being set and then moved out again and again, I'm wondering if that isn't the main driving force behind the slow progress. Gas prices continue to be what, 60% of what they were 2 1/2 yrs ago?

If we could somehow raise gas prices, THAT might be the best marketing action to increase the reservation rate. It's a double-edged sword, of course, but the simplest explanation and solution may be just that. No, I don't want to raise gas prices, but I do think that is the best idea for boosting the reservation rate and get things moving towards actual production.

Just some thoughts. :frusty: :nerd:  Don't crucify me, I'm a supporter too. Heck, look at my last name, I HAVE to be a sup-porter.

I think the situation has matured past the point where simple marketing antics will do very much. There is a lot of on-line information and controversy that brings up the issues that impact confidence in the Elio. Those issues are what needs to be addressed for reservation rates to go up by much.

One of these would do it; Completion of the final 20+ test units, Completion of the testing, announcement of the MPG rating, completion of the 100, sudden full funding, a reliable production date, production of the engine for any kind of application, completion of the vehicle production tooling/process, first production Elios out the door, people seeing them on the street. Those last two being the heavy hitters. (but these do happen in a set order)

Getting people to sit in the Elio seems to overcome online controversy, but you can just only seat so many people per month. And the on-line arguments are definitely having an impact with those people.

Given things said to me in the past, I believe that after the 65k, Elio Motors will (and has) put more effort towards 'public information' and 'investors perception' than they have strictly on reservations. It must indicate their higher interest in the ATVM and investors above all else.

Edited: oh yea, about funding... http://www.elioowners.com/threads/do-not-write-to-doe-write-here-instead.8082/#post-173185
