I do tend to giggle whenever Jeff Gordon or Jimmy Johnson have issues.

I used to park cars at the Atlanta International Raceway which, I know, has changed names. But, I used to like "Awesome Bill from Dawsonville". I don't watch nor care anymore (Oh no, another left turn!). But I do respect Jeff Gordan as he seems to have come to racing from an everyman's point. He started racing when he was very, very young. He didn't start racing because Daddy had a race team. I mean, really. Those guys aren't the best drivers around. They just happened to have connections when it mattered. And the next time someone says "NASCAR is really physically demanding. Those guys have to be strong..." I'm going to sh!t. 80 pound Danica Patrick can do it... Come on, man.

Won't be long before we'll say "Kyle who?"

Here's what I have been waiting for, Chase Elliot will drive the 24. Here is a considerable driving talent in a polite, smart, cool, patient and clean driving, very young, Champion.
Now we have a new star that everyone can be proud of. Chase wears his hat on straight,
his pants up where they should be and can talk with the media without hiding in a hoodie. A complete Class Act, start to finish and a great roll model for the future of Nascar. Hendrick, Dale Jr. and his Dad are guiding his path and he will become a Legend.

We will be hearing a lot about this talented and mature driver this year and years to come.

As you can see, the numbers have been in the 42-55 range for 4 months, averaging 42.25 vehicles per day. Prior to September, Elio averaged 91.57 new reservations per day. Overall, they've averaged 91.5 per day. September was an unusually high reservation month.

In the last 3 months, it seems there has been a very gentle upward movement of reservations which could indicate we've seen the lowest numbers that Elio will encounter barring significant issues. Carrying the new 42 as the lowest number of reservations, they'll hit 40,000 reservations on 10 February, 2015.

Here are a couple of obvious variables:
1. Running engine
2. Running engine in finalized prototype(s)
3. Hiring at the plant
4. Production delay
5. The AMTV loan
6. Funding announcement in lieu of the loan
7. Elio options/prices finalized
8. Announcement of selected transmission(s)
9. Helmet and motorcycle vs. autocycle legislation announcements
10. Signs of Elio at Factory
11. Signs of Elio at Pep Boys and/or announcement about "out of area" warranty work
12. Factory machines placed/adjusted (tour of finalized production line)
13. Picture of new hires at factory


There are lots more but those are the big things that I think will affect reservations. It's my opinion so I'm never wrong to me. (just don't ask my wife)

The biggest variable may be the missing one: number of major TV and news coverage, with driving clips / photos. There was a big burst of coverage last spring / summer, which may have kicked up the numbers. Nada since fall weather and no news announcements (other than Skyz) and engine-on-test (no photos of running engine, test set-up, or anything else to spark interest).

More news coverage = more reservations, no doubt about it.

I'd love it! I raced motorcross growing up and always had sports cars till I had to start moving where the Air Force wanted me to go at which point, trucks made more sense. There's a lot to know driving a race car, I understand. But, the actual driving can't be THAT difficult.

An ESPN “Sports Sciences” story in 2012 showed what Denny Hamlin goes through in a race. ESPN was allowed to have sensors inside Hamlin’s car—and one inside his body that he swallowed—to gather information during the 2012 Coca-Cola 600. The ESPN report showed that Hamlin’s car was 130 degrees throughout the race, that he sweated 3.5 pints of perspiration an hour, lost 13 pounds of water weight during that event and that his neck supports g-forces of 40 pounds in the turns—in a 400-lap race, that’s 800 40-pound reps with his neck. His heart rate was 130 for the event, which is comparable to an endurance runner except that the Coke 600 lasts twice as long as a marathon would.

Thanks for pointing that out before a moderator could see it. Even though it is pretty interesting to hear what a NASCAR driver must endure in a race we do actually have a NASCAR thread in the off-topic forum and that would indeed be a good location for this discussion.

Nope. Sounds fun. I was going to ask how someone sweats 3.5 pints but loses the equivalent of 3 gallons of water... Big Gulp - gets you every time. Danica Patrick is still a 100 lb girl... Though maybe a lot tougher than I thought! I wonder if she has a reservation number.... and, I bring it right back on topic.
