Forgive my lack of hands on knowledge of this, but assuming I am driving a mid priced EV (not hybrid), and I am very low on charge, and I find a convenient charging station, how long will it take to "fill my tank"? Not talking about a limp to the next station charge, talking "full up" refill. How much will that cost? I know some places are "free" now, but I expect that will rapidly change.

Good question. Cost to charge my 326 mile range 75 kWh battery at my local area kWh rate: 75 kWh x 0.15 kWh = $11.25. When home charging for local daily commutes, I set it to charge at 80%, recommended to conserve battery life. I leave the house with an 80% overnight charge every morning. The only time I charge to 100% is when planning long distance roadtrip the next morning. By comparison: my former SUV’s 15 gallon gas tank at today’s $3.44/gallon gas price $51.60. In 2 years of ownership the only service on the car has been a tire rotation. With that said, low total cost to operate, is not why I chose to own an EV, but rather performance. Fastest 0-60 mph car I’ve owned in 60 years of driving. It’s a joy to drive. :)

Regarding time to charge. I found that I have to charge once during a long road (500 miles per day is max for this old geezer).…….and never top it off beyond 80%, and generally charge enough to reach my end of day destination…….where I overnight charge to 100% to start the next days leg of the journey. I’m charging at the top off stop, while having lunch adjacent to the charging location. No more time spent than when I stopped to fill the gas tank and then stopped for lunch.

Gas prices in Northeast Texas dropped about $.30/gal last evening. McKinney/Plano area, $2.82 - $2.88 most places.
Wow, Boy, my state is 'f'd up. I seem to remember paying $4.49 on my last fill up, which is about 1-2 times each week.

We are having phenomenal growth here in AZ, only stumbling a little because of the interest hikes. That maybe why gas prices have not been dropping very easilly here.

All the US weather events associated to 'warming' have been adding to the perception that Arizona is liviable, even while plenty hot and arid, it's been more predictable.

The perception on fires is that, yes we have them, but were already used to that issue.

We have not run completely out of water in AZ, but it is very much a growing threat. Still, until all the golf courses close down, we haven't hit that wall yet.
We have plenty of trees, but in the valley only where we auto-water them.

('the valley' here actually means our low-lying plains between distant mountain ranges, Phoenix resting in the most notable one)

"Owner showcases how $86K GMC Hummer EV takes 4 DAYS to fully charge from home outlet"

Source: https://www.bizpacreview.com/2022/1...ays-to-fully-charge-from-home-outlet-1291795/

I've seen this article posted in a couple of sources.

This owner did purchase the 240 Volt charger and that still takes 24 hours to charge.

“I have a Juice Box, Level Two charger, 240 volts at my garage,” the man explained. “Plug in Level Two charger; now it says it will be done tomorrow by 6:30, so about 24 hours of charging from four percent to 100 percent. It’s a 212 kilowatt-hour battery. Still takes a while.”

I’m not very familiar with what it takes to recharge on the road.

say you’re traveling across several states and you run the batteries down to 10% or so. You find a super charging station. About how long would it take to charge to 100% and approx what would the station charge? Have you done this with your EV?

I had range anxiety prior to buying an EV. Our first long road trip (1200 miles) was moving back from Idaho to South Dakota. I set the trip planner on the navigation and it scheduled the charging stops and charger locations along the route and the chargers were conveniently located. The only time it’s recommended to charge to 100% would be an overnight charge to start the next mornings travel. Otherwise, it was a stop to to charge to the % (80% Max) that got us to our scheduled end of day destination…….and there an overnight charge (100%) to start the next morning. Our longest charge took 20 minutes and we had lunch at an adjacent restaurant and watched the charging progress on our cell phone APP. I was pleasantly surprised by the long road trip experience and my current anxiety is about the same as running out of gas.

Note: Scroll up to reply #233 for charge time to 80% and the average supercharger kWh cost.

One day…. Somewhere down the road…. Maybe the EV folks will match the speed of putting energy into their vehicles. I timed it this morning. It took about 6 secs to put 22 miles of travel into my truck. ( and those pumps are slow)

who knows, maybe they’ll add power into street lanes and our cars will be designed like slot cars. Wouldn’t have to worry about charging at that point. That would be nice….
