Maryland born and raised myself. What most people do not realize is that Central Maryland is VERY transient compared to say the western and eastern parts of the state.
LOTS of government employees and defense contractors from all over the US and the world even, always coming and going. I had new classmates on a regular basis growing up in school, especially when I lived in Aberdeen with the Proving Ground for the Army.
And to travel West to East across Maryland is a good 8 hour drive plus, from the Keyser Ridge Mountain to the Assateague State Park at the other end south of Ocean City. But there is a LOT of cool things to see and do packed into a small state.
As for me, I just commute now, I have no intention of ever moving back.
