I had a problem several summers ago hitting bats (the critter ones, not the ones the Red Sox use) they were everywhere here in Maine. Now we have more issues hitting moose, I'm hopeful the Elio will just pass under them, or in the worst case the Martinsitic roll cage would keep one off my lap. :D
Other side of the country, no moose, couldn't care less about baseball, however the critter kind of bats have white nose disease are a concern.

Having commuted in low-slung sports cars (and one slammed ex-cop-car!) for much of the last 20 years, that is the correct answer. With those cars I had to drive completely around any debris in the road, either on the shoulder or into the other lane. I once had a rock in the road severely damage the underside of my prettiest car because of no shoulder, oncoming traffic, and no time to stop without getting rear-ended. Thought I would clear it. Nope. :(

So I'm already very conscious of the road surface ahead.

Part of the secret is leave lots of room between you and the car in front of you. As much as is practical given the speed and traffic. That room is precious time to react.

The latter, I hope. Kill all tree rats!

I'll probably still avoid them because I don't want to have to clean their guts out of the spats. ;)
I'm of mixed emotion on tree rats. I like the fox squirrels but detest the cat squirrels. But no animal is worth getting killed over. That is reserved for humans.

Back in J-High I rode a scooter with a sidecar for several years and have since ridden motorcycles with a sidecar on several occasions. It's a whole different experience than either a 2-wheeler or a 4-wheeler, as you tip to the right but fight the urge to steer the vehicle to the right to get your cg and track back in line. For potholes, the drill is much like that of a 4-wheeler - take the pothole between the tire tracks. Sounds simple, but a bike with a sidecar is a LOT narrower than a car, so your aim has to be pretty good. I'd aim for a spot under my right foot. For larger potholes, well, you're on your own.

One caution about driving with a tire in the centerline or shoulder trash, there be NAILS in those waters. Arrrr . . .

For years I entertained myself with a bad habit - reinforcing my track skills by clipping apexes on exit ramps up until I discovered I was fixing flats at a furious rate. Nails and particularly sheet-metal screws find their way to the roadside or the center track where they lie in wait for the unwary. Now I'm staying away from the edges of the road, particularly where there are curbs that will tend to retain falling debris.
