satire ? .... there are 3 Pep Boys near our home .... within the last couple of weeks I have stopped at all three .... highest ranking people I talked with were assistant managers .... none had ever heard of an Elio .... none have tire alignment machines that can handle the single rear tire of an Elio .... hopefully that will change

Jim

Yep, it will change. If Elio has a partnership with Pep Boys, and at least one mechanic per location will be certified by Elio Motors, then when the production start is within 2-3 months, plans will be made to certify said mechanics. Not sure why each individual store would need to know anything about this, when the production start date isn't in stone yet.

It would make all of us FEEL BETTER if each store knew about the Elio now3, but it's not a worry.

Just got back from Pep Boys. (No I didn't ask). I bought a new Bosch battery for the old Caddy about 10 months ago and for whatever reason it went tango uniform. Took it back this morning anticipating a fight but when I told the counter guy of the problem he just said "no problem I'll get you another one". Haven't had many dealings with Pep Boys (their a little out of the way from where I live) but what dealings I have had have been good.

4WD, like ABS and ASC is no substitute for driver intellect or responsibility. Hauling fairly large boat trailers up and down some rather iffy ramps taught me the skills I learned from friends who built swamp buggies down in the 'Glades: Once you spin, you're done. For some reason many people think you can floor the throttle and sheer wheelspin will move you forward . . . not so.

I agree 100%. Some think because their car has four wheel drive, ABS and ASC/DSC/ESC or whatever term the manufacturer chooses to use, they are unstoppable and uncrashable. Well they're not; we're entering the silly season again; when it's frosty or icy one stretch of road near here collects any number of cars in the fields and ditches alongside. A lot of them end up inverted so the drivers can inspect their tyres and transmission a little more closely.

Everything relies on the correct tyres for the job because that's how the human/computer interface connects with the road. Not to mention due consideration for the road surface and weather conditions.

So, let's hope Elio & Pep Boys can supply and fit the correct winter tyres for the Elio, because it looks like that's when they'll start coming off the production line, late next year..

I'm just about to convince myself to spend $970 on a full set of winter tyres for my daily driver...my other half isn't going to like it, but she needs me to still be around to do stuff around the house in our dotage, so she'll hopefully get over the shock...

All the 4WD does for you is to help you get out of the ditch once you have slid into it.

You can drive on parts of Daytona Beach, but the speed limit is 5 or 10 MPH. It seems they town fathers get really put out about running over the tourists. It seems they spend less when in the hospital.

Agreed. My family went there on vacation this past summer. We were looking forward to renting dune buggies and having some fun. Then when I learned the speed limit was ten, I thought, what's the point? So we drove on the beach in the minivan... Good times...

Couple of things to remember tho...
1. Good pair of Polarizing UV protected sunglasses are a must (You can go "snow blind" looking at the salt in the sun)
2. Make darn sure you've washed ALL of the salt off the vehicle when you're done!
