Don't you get the NFL channel? They replay all of the televised games as reruns during the week; last night I flipped on a couple of different games (that weren't televised here) because I wanted to see some of the new players.
There are times on Sunday that I expect to see a western division game, and they play a live game from the east coast. I know that Comcast has packages that I can pick any game I wanted on the weekend, but I already pay enough. My daughter comes over to watch the local news because she only has Prime and Netflix.
Your daughter could easily just get an antenna and watch the news on her own TV. Maybe she just wants to spend a little more time with you. Congrats! No, I don't have the NFL channel. I was paying a little over $140 a month to Directv while in Albuquerque and decided I'd make a change. NFL season will be the biggest challenge. I'm used to have having the NFL Sunday Package and watching several games every weekend. I have Verizon so I can always stream games live to my phone but that's less than optimum. I'll be able to watch Sunday and Sunday night football for sure on the TV and Thursday nights as well.

Of the 19 (non-football) shows my family watched every week, 16 of them are available over the air. One of the ones not available got cancelled anyway. So, back in January, I decided that paying $140 a month for 3 shows a week was idiotic. I think I paid about $200 for the Tablo and I pay $5 a month for the "advanced guide" which lets you search for shows, record "new" or "all", has a schedule grid, and has pictoral search for shows that are available on the stations you receive. I get 39 channels over the air here. Sure, some of them are PBS but ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, CW, and Escape (shows 10 year old movies mostly...) are decent. Plus, we have Amazon Prime and Netflix anyway. We always had those two so they aren't an "added" expense.

Anyway, dumping cable saves me $1,680 a year. I was paying that much money so that I could sit in a chair getting out of shape and watch a little box rather than experience life and actually DO something. Enough.

Having said all that, I haven't had to suffer through an NFL season without cable yet. Well, I'm a Falcons fan so I ALWAYS suffer through the season. LOL

And suffer you will; Atlanta is playing Miami tonight (in Orlando because the remodeled stadium isn't done yet) right now the score is 14 to 3

Miami

We've tried 4 different digital antennas and they don't work where she lives; we get TV out of Portland and there are a bunch of hills, mountains, valleys and buildings between here and there. And of course she got to try them after I had tested them here; didn't work for me either.

I did a LOT of traveling and work (I almost always had 2 jobs; a 9 to 10 hour a day job, and my shop) before I retired; so I never really had a chance to watch a lot of TV.
So for me, it's an inexpensive form of entertainment.

Atlanta totally kicked ass!... against Carolina on week 16 last year... Last night? Well, they sucked harder than a ... Well, they sucked. They didn't do anything too too bad but the overall execution was lacking. It looks like they could do a lot better and should by the time the season gets started. Next week with the starters in for most of the game should help. Luckily, our backup QB looks okay so should something happen to Matt Ryan, all won't be lost. (unlike the Cowboys who seemed to lose every game Romo missed).

Bah, the pre-season NFL. lol j/k The pre-season means zero to us NFL fans as far as regular season results go anyway. Last year, I believe my Chiefs won all 4 preseason games, then started the reg season 1-5. It's a looooong season, and teams are trying mostly to figure out who the backups and special teams players will be during the preseason.

Most teams know by the end of the first preseason game who their 22 starters will be on O and D. Yes there's a lot of turnover on every NFL team, but they each know early in the preseason about their best players. Plus the offensive packages are very plain in preseason games.

Yes, a few teams claim they don't know who their starting QB will be as of today. But that could be to give their reg season week 1 opponent 2 QBs to prepare for. :director:

First reg season game is Thu night Sept 8, Car @ Den. Go Panthers. First set of Sunday games is Sept 11. Yeeeeaaaahhh baby! :bounce:

I don't know that I can agree with that last statement; the new backup QB at Dallas is looking pretty good.
His name is Dak Prescott and I think they finally found the replacement they've been looking for; this kid is very good.
This is Romo's 14th season, and he isn't getting any younger.

Seahawks looked like crap the first quarter, but they are still trying to fit rookies in where we had Pro's before.
By the end of the game, they started looking like the team from 3 years ago; the Legion of Boom and an awesome quarter back.
I think the Seahawks are going to be Division winners again. Not going to predict any further out than that.

Go Seahawks!!

I was just going by Dallas' last season (my wife like the Cowboys and the Saints). It seemed like they lost 4 of 4 when Romo was out. I didn't look that up so I could easily be wrong. It sure seemed like they lost every one. The new kid may be good. Time will tell. The Falcons need to start grooming a new kid. Matt Ryan isn't exactly a rookie any more nor is Matt Schaub, his backup.

I want to say Sorry to any Dallas fans here, I just heard about this on one of the NFL shows.
Tony Romo is out for the beginning of the season (maybe longer) with a broken back.

Seems that when Dallas was playing the Seahawks, Romo was tackled by a Seattle lineman name Avril.
Avril feels really bad about it; they replayed when the hit happened and it's was a clean hit; actually more like a grab and drop.
When Avril let go of Romo, Romo went straight down; the lay he landed was what did it.
There will be more news about it released soon. That's about all I heard / or it's all they're reporting.

This is the story they gave on Thursday:
http://www.seattlepi.com/sports/article/Romo-gives-Cowboys-scare-as-Seattle-rolls-past-9185779.php

But today they updated and say it wasn't as minor as they first thought.

**Update 8-28-2016**
They've announced that Romo has a compression stress fracture in his back (it's the same type of fracture I had in my top two vertebrae in my neck).
He will be out 8 to 10 weeks, maybe more.
IMO, he's done, or close to done with football; 14 seasons in NFL wears any player down.
But Tony has been "made of glass" for the last couple of years; not having a good O-Line didn't help either.
Don't be surprised if you see him up in the booth auditioning soon.

Romo's glass status is indeed an ongoing problem for Dallas. I know they love him there and I know he "was" an elite quarterback but the coaching staff and players were all trapped by him. They couldn't move forward with Romo at the helm part-time. Maybe this way, they can start training up Romo's replacement. It's different being the backup rather than the prime QB. This year, finally, Dallas won't play several games while their backup gets more and more rusty. This year, they can have a full practice game and then start the season out right.

---- Kaepernick wants to sit during the National Anthem? Fine. That is his right (didn't Hope Solo get suspended for 6 months from soccer for merely saying something offensive? This must be different... Maybe she was being oppressed). And, since that offends me, I will not watch a single game this year where the 49rs play.
