Your daughter could easily just get an antenna and watch the news on her own TV. Maybe she just wants to spend a little more time with you. Congrats! No, I don't have the NFL channel. I was paying a little over $140 a month to Directv while in Albuquerque and decided I'd make a change. NFL season will be the biggest challenge. I'm used to have having the NFL Sunday Package and watching several games every weekend. I have Verizon so I can always stream games live to my phone but that's less than optimum. I'll be able to watch Sunday and Sunday night football for sure on the TV and Thursday nights as well.Don't you get the NFL channel? They replay all of the televised games as reruns during the week; last night I flipped on a couple of different games (that weren't televised here) because I wanted to see some of the new players.
There are times on Sunday that I expect to see a western division game, and they play a live game from the east coast. I know that Comcast has packages that I can pick any game I wanted on the weekend, but I already pay enough. My daughter comes over to watch the local news because she only has Prime and Netflix.
Of the 19 (non-football) shows my family watched every week, 16 of them are available over the air. One of the ones not available got cancelled anyway. So, back in January, I decided that paying $140 a month for 3 shows a week was idiotic. I think I paid about $200 for the Tablo and I pay $5 a month for the "advanced guide" which lets you search for shows, record "new" or "all", has a schedule grid, and has pictoral search for shows that are available on the stations you receive. I get 39 channels over the air here. Sure, some of them are PBS but ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, CW, and Escape (shows 10 year old movies mostly...) are decent. Plus, we have Amazon Prime and Netflix anyway. We always had those two so they aren't an "added" expense.
Anyway, dumping cable saves me $1,680 a year. I was paying that much money so that I could sit in a chair getting out of shape and watch a little box rather than experience life and actually DO something. Enough.
Having said all that, I haven't had to suffer through an NFL season without cable yet. Well, I'm a Falcons fan so I ALWAYS suffer through the season. LOL
