It's so important to have good relationships with people, especially when tackling a project like this. Money isn't everything. Sometimes a person needs a quick favor or advice. The fact that the shop is willing to work your pieces in so quickly, says a lot about what they think of you. It's good to have friends – both on a personal and business level. Lookin' good!

I never tire of seeing the cutter work. I wished my Dad and father-in law had lived long enough to see the technology. They wouldn't have believed it.
I just had 3 circular plates of aluminum composite CNC'd with all kinds holes for bolts and mounting hardware. All three pieces are identical and perfect. Still amazes me....
I can, and have drawn up parts on my computer at work (I do most at home in the evenings), drive a mile to the laser shop, have the parts cut, back to the factory, and welded up within an hour or so.
I barely believe it myself coming from making similar parts with hand drills, 4" grinders, hacksaws etc. An oxy acetylene blow torch was a luxury! I can not remember the last time I used a hacksaw!
How many large holes I made in plate steel by drilling a multiple series of small holes around inside the circumference, then filing down the jagged bits by hand.

I guess each generation has seen tools and techniques change for the better – over the previous generation. I suspect our generation has witnessed as much or more change than any other. We've gone from a pencil to a computer and a saw to a laser. Good times to experience and witness for sure....

I never would have imagined that I'll see an autonomous cars and cars that park itself in my generation. And 3-D printing just now taking off. Soon you will just print what you want (maybe through a service) with very little wasted effort to modify. Should reduce scrap too. They are even printing buildings now. On one hand I think it's good, but I wonder how many skills will be lost in the long run. Why would anybody need to learn a skill if you can just get what you want? Perhaps the new skill will be figuring out what you really want.
Phhtttt, Maxwell Smart had one of those on the 1960s.

Maxwell Smart? He invented the Smart Car? Smart Phone? Just kidding, I only watched to see Agent 99.
I'm one of the few "old school" who hates carrying smart phones. All I wanted is a phone that sends and receives texts and calls, that's it. So when Samsung introduced the Gear S3 Frontier "stand alone" watch phone, it was a no brainer for me. Now, it goes with me like a regular watch in my wrist so no danger of misplacing it, it's light and it's not tethered to my smart phone that now stays at home! Thanks Dick Tracy!
