You are right on that

So are you both telling me you would rather wear a helmet while driving your Elio ? If so your going to have the seats custom built for you and your passenger as to not interfere with the full face helmet. Just removing the headrest might help but I doubt it. Then there is always the limited vision that you will have plus your blind spots. Then let's not forget what happened to Dale Sr. if your wearing that heavy helmet and belted in when your in that rapid deceleration collision. If that's what you'd rather its your opinion. Mine on the other hand is, I applaud all the legislatures and their supporters for recognizing that there is a future to an auto-cycle, and being proactive in adapting to that future.

No in Wisconsin we fixed that by allowing adults to decide for them self. I do chose to wear one on my Motorcycles but fell no reason to force anyone else to. There is no limited vision wearing a proper helmet that is a myth and for some cheap ones. Wife and I both wear full coverage Modular helmets.
As a motorcycle ELIO had a lot of advantages that are all lost once it is a car.

There is no limited vision wearing a proper helmet that is a myth and for some cheap ones. Wife and I both wear full coverage Modular helmets.
As a motorcycle ELIO had a lot of advantages that are all lost once it is a car.

I've worn both 1/2 helmets and full face helmets when riding my bike and I know for a fact I have to turn that much more to get a quick full view behind / beside me when wearing a full. Also from my racing experience I have learned that lots of head turning with a full face helmet when you have A, B and C pillars to also look around.

I understand where you are coming from, but the majority of the public wants, and Elio motors needs this thing regulated like a car for it to sell in the numbers needed...

I can top seeing my stuff on the internet. I am actually a full medical study and my details were published in a medical journal :D.

what was funny was the students that were investigating and taking photos of me, were the same ones id help get set up with their internet access where i work :)

Everyone's replies are very much appreciated, let's bring the focus of the thread back to the subject: getting state's laws changed so that there's no mc driver's license required.

I've been emailing my KS senator Ostmeyer, today I sent in the same basic "testimony" email that I sent to the representative a few weeks ago, hoping that it will be read in the Senate Transportation committee.

The testimony email I sent, lays out the need for the bill, explains Elio Motors, the current number of reservations, if the bill doesn't pass how a Kansas resident who owns an Elio will need to get a motorcycle license, the AAMVA's document about recommended autocycle practices, etc.

I will not oppose any State changing their law to call Elio a car. All I am saying is I would prefer it stay a motorcycle. I can understand there are a lot of people that can not pass a motorcycle test. Even though it is no big deal. Calling ELIO a car just makes it much harder for ELIO to get it to market. It has a long list of regulation it must meet. And Cost will go up.

I think we'll all find that after the Elio has been out a little while, insurance companies will adjust rates just like they do on motorcycles and cars. They aren't in the business to lose money. As far as what the Elio is classified as, I think we'd all agree that classifying it as a motorcycle for insurance but a car for emissions and licensing is the way to go. Unless they add an autocycle classification.

There is nothing that says an insurance has to give motorcycle insurance on the Elio regardless to what the state calls the thing. The insurance company can just say
$$"Elios fit this rate structure here on this chart labeled 'Elio'."
-- "Wait, my Elio is classified as a motorcycle."
$$"Whatever. Here are our rates... like I said, on this chart labeled 'Elio'."
--"But it's a motorcycle."
$$"Next"

Insurance is based off of repair cost, replacement cost, survivability of the vehicle (how damaged it'll get), likeliness of accident, etc.. Are red cars more expensive to insure than blue? Sports cars more expensive than 4 door family sedans? Big trucks more expensive than motorcycles?

No State, that Im aware of, is changing law to reclassify the Elio as a car. It has a motorcycle vin number.

I'm quite happy with the term "auto-cycle" and with most states adjusting their laws to remove the requirements for motorcycle licenses and helmets I think we will be fine. At 70 I still maintain my motorcycle license even though I haven't ridden one in several years.
