Johnson said first cars will be manual tranny, automatic later in Year 1. If true that's a bombshell, since 93% of Americans buy automatic when offered the choice
.
How can they do that if the first 200 $1000 All-In reservations are 60% automatic?

I imagine your SIL as an automatic transmission requester would hold true, relative to other reservationists requesting the AMT. Perhaps there is the very high likelihood that someone with an SIL of, say, 1500, would receive delivery of their Elio before someone with an SIL of, say, 750, due to the transmission requested and no other variable?

It sounds to me like there's a good chance that Elio might divide the inclusive SIL list into two piles - those requesting the AMT, and those requesting the manual transmission - and your SIL would be honored relative to SIL holders in your respective transmission group.

Who's re-considering the AMT?! Haha

I think this engineer was asked questions he was not prepared for. I have no doubt, if the question had been about what he was working on, he could have talked for hours.
This engineer is the VP of engineering and reports directly to Paul Elio. He should be prepared to answer all questions, since he is responsible for the entire process up to and including the Elio Launch.

If you listened to the guy, he was so eager to answer questions that he often didn't wait until the questioner had finished asking the question, and several times had to be caught up or brought back on track. He may be a hell of a engineer, but he's not particularly cagey -- except having the sense not to answer financial questions.

His eagerness meant he wasn't being particularly careful. But some of what he DID say has pretty profound implications, and it would be nice to know if they're really accurate or not.

Based on the fact 93% of American's buy automatic, the automatic should be included in the base model and the standard tranny the option or auto only to simplify manufacturing. For certain the ATM should be first off the line if they choose to start production with only one transmission.
