I see the vents for the heat/air, the speaker holes just above them, but what are the vents on the A-pillar?

I'm not seeing any vents on the pillars.

Some possibilities:

• So that you have a better grip on the A-pillar when using it as a support.
• Interior "dome" lighting (slatted to keep light out of your eyes, just toward the dash/wheel/road atlas in your lap etc.)
• A necessary result of some the inexpensive manufacturing process being used.

I doubt that. The pillars are too far forward to be of any use in a side air bag. If your head ever got that far forward it would be past the steering wheel's airbag so you'd already be pretty well screwed.

I think what we're seeing on the pillars is just a bit of aesthetic detail.
